Shocks Again?????
« on: May 12, 2015, 08:16:44 PM »

I have had bad issues with shocks. I got Progressive air shocks, they leaked. Smooth Ride air shocks had too hard a rebound mad lots of noise. I had YSS Z-366 TRL that were too stiff, I tried softer springs and still too stiff. I then went to Progressive 444 shocks and they are better but still to stiff. I am at my end of what to do.
Race Tech shocks look like YSS, as does JRI. Pointers anyone?
Progressive 970? Are the reservoir shocks really worth the extra money. I have spent over 2000 in shocks and I am still unhappy.
Bummed. I need advice. Thanks

Thrilled with my Ohlins.  Service Mgr at dealer rode the bike and could not believe the difference.  That was before I did the front.

I had the YSS. looking closely at Ohlins, Race Tech and JRI they have very similar shapes to the YSS on both ends.  On my old YSS shocks I had to offset them at the top for clearance but doing so the bottom end no longer fit the Swingarm. I had to move them backwards and outward thus changing the shock angle making it too hard. I see YSS has ends that are offset that should give clearance that will make the correct angle. The other companies don't make offset ends. The pic shows the old shock.

Choices choices!

Terry
Ohlins
Works

would be my preferences in no particular order.
Each has their pros and cons
Terry Cable has a good return policy if you don't like them.

you can contact Jim at Metal Dragon and ask him about the Suspension Technology shocks.  He is very knowledgeable and great to talk to and a superb business.  Jim @ 510-885-9471 and he is here on the  CVO forum also.  Do a search under this same section and you will find him.  Also look in the Vendor section also, he does give a discount for CVO members.

Suspension Technology shocks are great! Jim is fantastic! I will be getting some of these for my new scoot soon.

I really like my Ohlins.  Have had several other brands, the Ohlins are the best I have used.
