New CVO, paint issue?
« on: May 31, 2015, 09:55:54 AM »

Hey guys, below my passenger pillion the pain is rough like they didn't bother to wet sand this area .. looks fine, just happened to notice when I ran my hand across the paint job, almost feels like fine sand paper .. anybody else have this?  Is this one of those things they can fix? 2015 Street Glide.

When you say below the pillion, do you mean the paint surface the pillion sits on and covers, only visible when you remove the pillion?  If so, take a closer look and see if it isn't some sort of clear protective film applied to the paint.

If it's just surface dirt in the paint, then yes it should be possible to sand and polish the area to make it as smooth as the rest of the fender.  Without seeing it in person, it's pretty hard to make an accurate diagnosis.  If it bothers you, take it to a professional painter and see what he or she have to say.

It does bother me.. I put some wax on it and buffed it out, seemed to mask it .. but if it doesn't hold or if I can't let it go I'll take it to a painter .. I don't let the dealer do paint work ..

I would try clay barring it.  I had some rough spots on the backs of my bags and lowers....I clay barred them and the I used a small 4" pad on my Porter Cable buffer and it's smooth as glass now.  It could be clear coat overspray....or just dirt from shipping and or sitting.

Agreed! I just bought a tour pack that the lid felt like it was full of overspray, I used a clay bar, then polished with carnuba wax and it is smooth as glass.
