Worried at first then "WOW!"
« on: August 06, 2015, 02:13:26 AM »

Bought my 2000 SERG a coupe weeks ago. The PO stated that a high volume oil pump was installed and also he replaced the tensioners 10K mies ago,  but he didn't have any paper work. Now I knew that a bike with 46K miles on it was a ticking time bomb if what he told me was untrue. So.. I called the Harley dealer that he took it to and did the formentioned work, gave them the VIN#.. They couldn't confirm the work being done.. but they did show that it was serviced quite a lot. Not what I wanted to hear. Figured that I need to remove the cover and see for myself.. Quite happy to see this!

Now my question:

It still had stock push rods. I didn't want to go any deeper, but do you think it would be safe to assume that the lifters and cam bearing were replaced too??

I would not assume that.

Agree. Would absolutely check/replace lifters with that amount of miles.

Yeah I guess I'm going to call the dealer again and talk to service and see if they can do some better researching. Due to all the rains in South Florida, I haven't even had a chance to ride the bike!, other than the 300 mile ride home, and one other time the next day I put about a hundred miles on it. I don't want to tear into it right now I want to do a little riding anyway. If I can't get satisfaction from the dealer, I guess I will have to take a look later. In the future. I will get the quick change push rods and it won't be too bad. If I open it up I will change the cam bearings and lifters regardless. Hey, it's only money. :-)

I'd agree about changing the lifters out,  Do you plan on doing the work yourself?   If not, you have John Sachs one of the best porters and engine guys in the country just up the road from you in Plantation.   He is a member here as well.

I have always done all my own work, other than major head work or boring the cylinders. I couldn't afford so many bikes if I had to pay somebody. I have accumulated quite a bit of big twin tools... none that will work on a twin cam though.
