13 CVO Derby cover corroded
« on: July 12, 2015, 02:00:50 PM »

Hi All,
Noticed my 110" derby cover was starting to corrode and the chrome is lifting.
Anyone else have this problem?
I've had it for a little over 2.5 years so warranty won't replace it.
$160 for a replacement.
Just curious,
Jon

Not on my derby cover, but my timing cover has issues. The carbon fiber decal has chipped away and the chrome looks bas as well.

Not uncommon for HD chrome.  My 10 SESG shifters, brake pedal, and rear master clyinder cap look the same as your derby cover.  My 03 SERK did the same too.

Yup. And replacement is pricey. Just replaced 5 pieces that had bubbled.

Anyone had any luck writing or calling the home office?
Or is my time more valuable than trying for a replacement?

Wow that is bad corrosion, i have had Harley's for 15 years plus and never had that issue. Mind you i keep them well polished and dry with compressed air after a wash, the garage also has a dehumidifier running 24/7.
I figure they cost heaps so why not look after them but hey i am a fussy old bugger.
I know its sometimes hard to find the time and the enthusiasm to keep these things clean and waxed, but you just have to. :drink:

since you're beyond warranty, probably a futile attempt to get them replaced on moco's dime.

however, if you do decide to pay to replace them, you can get a good price on them (and any other hd stuff, as well as some aftermarket) from hornytoad hd.  just email jon.horton@hornytoadhd.com for a quote.  when zanotti's was still doing the internet thing, I would compare prices between them and jon, and jon beat them out by a good margin everytime.  I've been buying my stuff from him for a few years now.  saved a ton, although spent a ton as well :D

Thanks for all the replies.
Believe it or not, the MOCO has taken it under advisement.
I'll keep you posted.
