Right U R..I twisted her tail today for the first time with V&H TD"s and OT's and the bark she makes on start up is masking the knock the compansater makes.
Loud pipes not only save lives, they fix engine kocks. lol

Ride it HARD as hell for a day and see if it gets worse.....You'll know the answer.

If it's a rod,  it won't get better

If it's a bearing,  it won't get better

If it's paranoia.....you'll figure it out....

Well I have almost 150 on the odometer and they wern't pampered ones. Its all good. You can't hear the start up noise at all with the V&H TD's and OT's. I find the exhaust set up loader than the exact same set up on my 03 RK (88). I guess the extra cubes make extra noise. The extra cubes sure make extra POWER  :)

Just fwiw, the 07 has a bolt for the compensator and not the nut/washer affair like the 06.  This should eliminate the loosening that we'd see on the 103.  Mine has the same knock on starting.

It's that bigger sprocket up front that is installed with the new gear sets.

Gives you a little more "kick" when starting - and sounds a little off at first...

I hear something very simular with my Baker DD6...

I will have to listen the next time I start mine up... :-?  There is so much going on during that initial ignition...the compensator, the compression release, and with the V&H exhuast that initial rush of power causes a nice loud "burp" in the pipes...so that compensator "thunk" noise may be covered by everything else that's going on at the same time on my bike.  My annoyance is that gear whine in 5th gear, never had that on the five-speed.  Drop it into 4th or up to 6th and it goes away.  Even magazine reviews commented about the tranny whine in 5th gear.. :(

Mine screamed in the tappets when the bike was running extremely hot.  Now with the tuner and pipes, I have not heard it yet....
