An aluminum will cost more initially and you will get more when you sell it.  Being from a northern state, I would not want a steel trailer.

You being from Michigan, look no further than a Legend from Beck's in St John or a R&R (can't remember the town).   Two of the finest open or enclosed all aluminum trailers you can purchase and they are made in your state.

What axle is preferable the old leaf spring type or the torsion (looks like rubber inside the tube with the axle shaft)?

About any new good trailer will be torsion-you won't have a choice.

Go with torsion, much better ride, you can almost forget it's back there.

Ended up buying an Amera-lite 7x14 with the Wild Boar package. Thanks everyone for your input.
