I've seen cars that have run off the road from a front tire blowing.  An inexperienced driver could have a hard time maintaining control in that type of situation at highway speeds.  I don't get why some that freak out over plugging or patching a motorcycle tire will plug a car tire that their loved ones will drive or ride in.   I have never seen or heard of a plug or patch failing in either case so yes the better question would be has anyone experienced that?

IMO it comes down to "comfort level"... some are comfortable plugging/patching tires some aren't, just like some are comfortable riding triple digit MPH and some aren't. Those that are comfortable do it, those that aren't don't... either way it's that rider's call and you/we can talk about it until the cows come home and not change the others mind.

I agree completely.   I was just trying to make the point that if a tire could blow because of a failed plug that it wasn't necessarily safer to do it on a car.

The answer you will get most will be........yes, but it has 4 wheels. Same principle, have you ever had a plug/patch fail?

Last year, good friend, small deck screw, center of rear tire.  Blew out a plug.  As in, no plug left in tire.  Plugged again.  Blew out again.  At 50 mph.  I was riding with him.  We pulled the tire off.  Looked shredded somewhat on the inside - cords on the inside of tire.  Very small hole, tire had about 500 miles.

Also know folks who have put thousands of miles on a plugged tire with no issues.  And know a few folks who had plugs fail after 100 miles or less. 

Old days we just patched the hole & ran a new or a patched tube.  But the bikes weighed a lot less & *ahem* so did the riders.

So it is as it is with yes/no helmet, polish/wax, oil, the magic elixer of nitrogen, and semi synthetic blinker fluids: to each their own & ride happy.
