How Do These Grips Come Off?
« on: September 12, 2015, 07:14:36 PM »

A buddy has a non-CVO RG and is trading it in next week.  He wants to keep the grips from the bike he's trading in.  Anyone know how the left grip is secured (pic below). Not sure if it's glued or if the end cap pops off and it's attached with a set screw, etc.

Open up the switch housing.  It's sandwiched by the housing.  Haven't been glued for about a decade now.

You just take apart the switch housing.  That is the only thing holding it on.  Be sure to squeeze in the clutch lever and put a price of cardboard or something in the gap at the housing end of the lever to keep from breaking the clutch switch if he has hydraulic clutch.

You're making me feel old...I guess the next think you'll tell me is there are no more throttle cables.

Guess I can throw out that old can of hair spray for sticking them on.   :coolblue:

I had to laugh...I too have used hairspray and contact cement on my dirt bike grips....still do.  Haven't changed a set of Harley grips; haven't worn any out.  :o
