Slipstream grips - chrome coming off
« on: September 25, 2015, 04:41:48 AM »

Well, had my grips replaced 5 months ago because the chrome was coming off at the ends. Guess what, the chrome is coming off again, great quality - not. Also chrome is coming off my gass cap as well. Plus some pitting on my front wheel. Will see to get them changed again under warranty, then look for a more robust replacement.

Same is happening to my slipstream grips....and gas cap trim ring. I suppose I should check my wheels now that I am aware that is junk also.

I now have 22,000 km on my 2014 SERK and the chrome seems to be holding up, both grips and gas tank. Has your dealer had the same problem with other bikes of a similar vintage? I don't ride in the wet much at all, but have heated grips which get used some of the time. Really frustrating  :nixweiss:

I have not had any issue with the grips, but on the gas cap ring, I think that one is self induced.  when I was filling up before, the nozzle would rest against the edge of the trim ring.  I think that pressure and friction may have helped that to peel.  i'm on my 2nd replacement ring and I make sure that when I get gas, I hold the nozzle up vertically so that it doesn't 'scrape' against the side of the trim ring and cause it to peel.

I ride in all weathers, did 2k miles over the last 5 days, went to Scotland. My issue is not with the gas cap trim ring, the chrome is coming off the actual cap

i've not seen the chrome peeling on the gascap itself.  is the bike still under warranty?

Yes bike is still under warranty until next May, so plenty of time to sort
