DTC CODES
« on: August 25, 2015, 07:27:58 PM »

I was wondering if anyone has had an experience similar to the following. A day after the installation of an HPI 58E throttle body and tuning with a TTS the bike set DTC CODE P2119 throttle body actuator return but the bike is running and idling great and the butterfly is returning to the closed position at least it appears to be looking at it with the air filter off. I rode the bike home which was about 500 miles and the bike runs better than it ever has. I was going to pull the throttle body off and send it back to HPI for them to check it out but I had to leave for work offshore so I just brought it to the Harley shop in Hammond Louisiana. Right before getting there I checked the codes in the speedo head and I now had P2119 again along with P1510, P1511, and B1006. P1510 and P1511 have to do with limp mode but it was definitely not in limp mode it ran like a scalded cat. B1006 is accessory line over voltage. In the service manual for B1006 it says to check the charging system because it has to produce 16 volts or more for a period of time before that code gets set. It also says that if nothing is wrong with the charging system and the code gets set again to replace the speedometer. The Harley shop checked the charging system thoroughly today and it was fine. They cleared the codes rode the bike and it set P2119 and B1006 again. I am beginning to think that it is throwing false codes. I told them where I read in the service manual to replace the speedometer. They said they were all going to put their heads together to see what the next step should be. They agreed with me that the bike is running great. Thoughts anyone?

UPDATE:
The HPI throttle body was sent to HPI and they installed a new actuator and recalibrated it. I rode the bike for about 200 miles yesterday and the check engine light never came on. so the P2119 code is hopefully fixed. I am still getting the B1006 code without a check engine light. Also, I can clear the B1006 code, start the engine and immediately turn the bike off and B1006 sets with no check engine light. There is no telling how long B1006 has been coming on because I never started checking codes until P2119 turned the check engine light on with the throttle body issues. The service manual states that if B1006 is set and the charging system is fine, which it is, to change the speedometer. It looks like I had 2 issues.

That's a tough one. Like you stated the B1006 could have been set since you first got the scoot, no reason to check codes without a indication. That's one everybody should learn from..........pull codes every couple of weeks, light or no light. Some members probably do this, but from me you get a thanks for the eye-opener!!

Update:
Well the dealership changed out the speedometer but the B1006 code still came in. But I think I have it figured out. It looks like my Badlander load equalizer is the cause of it. I unplugged the equalizer, cleared the code, then cranked the bike and let it idle for about 15 minutes. I shut the bike off and there was no code present. I plugged the equalizer in, cranked the bike then shut the bike off immediately and the code was back. I am going to call Badlands tomorrow and see what they say.

Also the P2119 code started coming back but very randomly. I have found that if I roll the throttle handgrip all the way off and genltly bring it back to zero before turning the handlebar swithch to the run position that I dont ever get P2119 so maybe something is going on with the TPS.

The good news is through all of this the bike is running great!!

Well I replaced the Badlands load equalizer with the latest one from Custom Dynamics and the B1006 code is gone.
