trade in value on 2016 limited
« on: August 26, 2016, 10:08:51 PM »

Thanks for the welcome to the board I received, as I stated my engine on the limited is using oil at over two quarts between change, so naturally I had decided to go 110, but my sales guy called today and asked if I may want a 17 instead of me spending money to upgrade, warranty says they will pay 1200.00 for top end so I will have to pay 3100 difference, so he ran numbers called and said 11400 between bikes so in my head I figured numbers and that comes to me loosing 1266.00 for every month I owned bike, 8 months total OUCH. That's 300.00 per week Got to love this hobby but all is good be safe out there.

I think they call that an opening position. If you're interested in pursuing it I'm sure there are many positions between that opening position and a final position.

Yea this was the 17 motorcycle I have owned over the years, never did like the back and forth, but understand you have to in order to spend money wisely, got to laugh as I took the bike back with 800 miles got the famous response that's normal and they all do that but after they scoped jugs found scars and rings lined up, so me being me I had to say don't worry that's normal right, got a laugh out of service writer.  Whether I trade or not don't know, going to test ride 2017 in the morning but if I get engine built I have confidence in the tech that I will be splitting wind on this beautiful plant in no time, all is good be safe.

My last negotiations with a dealer took 6 weeks before we shook hands. Original offer for my 2005s was 9k each, and 29k for the 2014 I wanted. ended at 12k for only one of mine, 28K including 5 year extended on the 14, pretty good deal if you ask me. I sold the other 2005 private party myself.

So let me get this straight, your dealer will take your bike in on trade plus 11,400 dollars for a new 2017 ?

Yup, that's the way I read it too.  It's the normal opening offer you tend to get from any vehicle dealer, steal the trade and charge full price for the new model.  It's up to the potential buyer to refuse the offer, negotiate a better deal, or allow themselves to be screwed.  I would imagine that anyone on this site would do it the same way if they were trying to sell their bike; very few people start out by asking for their bottom dollar price.

If I read between the lines correctly, we are talking about a 2016 regular Limited and a 2017 regular limited, not CVO's.  $11,400 trade difference with a less than one year old bike seems more than excessive IMHO, and this would be one of those offers I would refuse in a heart beat.  If the dealership wanted to then get serious, negotiations would begin.  If they wanted to be hard azzes, I'd tell them to fix my current bike and then if I decided I wanted to trade I'd take it to another dealership and start over again on my terms.  There are plenty of dealers out there, and sales haven't been so good in recent years that they all can blow off customers by demanding excessive profits and refusing to negotiate.

Yes limited non CVO 6500 miles 2016 trade to 2017 limited non CVO, I actually spent time on new bike today, and well here is my run down. Bike is quitter at idle shakes about half as bad but above 1800 rpm engine seems as noisy as mine does have more torque and can feel slight HP difference hits triple digits little quicker friction zone little bit larger trans seems to clunk a little louder love the rear shocks like saddle bag mount brackets, no CB so if I wasn't on a 2016 would I love it probally but cant see or feel huge difference enough to take plunge so I will go 110 on my and all ready bought rear shocks might do front springs as well. On another note stealer was full of people wanting to test ride I mean really busy hope they sell a ton of them just not for me right now and no I did not talk numbers with them today but did tell them I would be ashamed to sell a bike to a customer 8 months ago for 30k and then offer them 16600 back in trade do people really jump that quick, oh well beautiful day in KY today put 100 miles on and hoping to split some wind tomorrow as well. Be safe friends

I'ld make them fix my motor (back to stock) completely covered under warranty. then look at trading or selling new motor. what's the 110 upgrade gonna do to the warranty (2yr &5 yr esp) is the question to be asking. jmho   :nixweiss:

110 kit is not supposed to void factory warranty as long as dealer does install. But makes me wonder now that the Epa  is more involved don't know how it might play out if or when I have a claim months or years from now.

As 08glide stated, I also would repair the engine back to "stock", especially if your considering trading it.  The 110 kit may not void your factory warranty if installed by a Harley dealer but you may find that the 110 kit will have an adverse effect on your ESP coverage. To check you should read your contract paperwork from the ESP company and NOT go by what any dealer tells you. Many of the ESP contracts prohibit any modifications to the engine and that would more than likely include a displacement bump. If you had the kit put in before you took original delivery then the 110 kit might be considered "stock".
What it boils down to is that it all depends on that ESP contract.

FWIW, I've held off on any major modifications to the drivetrain on my 11.5 CVO because I have an ESP - and I probably will continue that practice by renewing the ESP when it comes up next year. I've enjoyed the peace of mind that my ESP gives me ---  that, and I've used it a few times saving me some large repair bills.
