Best Seat Mods?
« on: October 10, 2015, 10:09:25 PM »

I tried to modify my Mustang seat two different times and it just gets worse. I tried Gel and memory foam, HQ Lux and HQ HD36 foam. Tried  different layer positions and thicknesses. Went to a DIY site and all I could find on the net.  I guess reading a book and a knife doesn't make me a Surgeon. I ruined the original foam beyond future use. I had to buy another good used seat to send out for rework.  So who does the best work at reasonable rates. Any input from anyone that that has it done. What foams were used? Satisfied with the results?
Thanks Lynn

I had my stock saddle reworked by a local auto / marine upholstery shop for $300.

Their motorcycle saddle specialist removed the way too soft foam from the seating area and replaced with some very dense foam about 14,000 miles ago.

Don't know your location but if you can hook up with Lugos on the rally circuit or when in winter quarters in Florida I don't think you could be disappointed by the work you'd get.  He was an artist both with shaping the seat to my ass and legs then making the seat beautiful once the shaping once done.

And a recent thread discussing him and his work:

Thanks for sharing this. The thing that is hardest to figure out is it seems that everyone's butt is so different and what works great for one can be torturous for another.
The first job I ever had back in the early '70s was making motorcycle seats for Honda's, for a couple years, so I've "adjusted " several myself and it's never easy.
I think for what it was to start with you did a great job.

And for the record, I wish Harley would make a Hamock solo seat with a back rest because that is by far the most comfortable seat I've ever sat on.

Well I ended up buying two Mustang Wide Touring seats. One to Ride while the second seat gets modified.  I hope the wide touring seat will be good without mods and I will have a spare. I will Ride it a2000 mile 5 day trip to see the fall colors. If the seat is not up to pat for my sore butt I will get the spare seat modification at who I hope is the best. Thanks Guys

That's the same seat I have for weekend touring with the back rest, works pretty good for me.

I narrowed it down to Mean City Cycles or Astech. Pros Cons on either or both? Is one much better than the other?
Thanks

Just had my seat redone by MCC, fantastic service and product. I would certainly do it again. Did the high density foam, cupped out the drivers seat for back support and moved back 1".  Can't beat the quality and price.

I live about 30/45 mins from Mean City and know plenty of locals that are happy with their work. Give them a call and talk to the Tech about what you want, height, reach, firmness, etc and he will take it from there. Good folks!!!

C&C Seats in Paramount, Chewy is the best in the business...

After calling MCC and getting a no go on Leather low profile seats. Was told problems with wrinkling with the leather?
Looked at all the seats available.Found C&C'S.Holy crap what a selection!
Been talking to Chuck.Had a ton of questions. All answered professionally. He sent me swatches and had the seat made this past week. After my PRIORITY Mail wasn't so PRIORITY to the post office,Chuck finally received payment yesterday..
So i'll start a thread with CHEWS seat (masterpiece).Yup asked him to autograph, the seat bottom.

Would like to see a pic and tell us how you liked it after 500 miles.
I ended up sending my Mustang seat to MCC. My seat will not be a low profile or leather. I will let you all know about the seat's comfort, I am in May, going to Ride Georgia, NC, Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia. 3500 plus mile trip from Louisiana. I Refuse to Trailer my Bike! Unless it to a Motorcycle shop due to any major issues. That's only been once when I had a S&S V111 installed 55,000 miles ago.

It has been great. Not a single problem. The only thing I did at 50k on motor was to replace the lifters as a precaution. They were still quiet not tapping or making any noise. The shop said everything in the cam chest wast perfect. No wear on cam lobes either.  Had a stock S&S 585 cam. Never took motor over 5200 rpm. No Need!
