Thinking about going with the Harley tuner
« on: November 18, 2015, 08:02:13 PM »

OK i have the TTS Mastertune on my bike. Its a 2015 CVO RG. I recently put some D&D 2-1's on it & want to get it dyne done but the closest place is in Dallas,Tx. which is about 3.5-4 hrs away for me. Its just hard finding the time to get away for a day. I found an independent shop that does the power commander but never has done the TTS but is willing to try. Was thinking about going with the Screaming Eagle tuner since i have numerous dealers in my area and just maybe seems like would be easier. There is 1 dealer that is running a special for the dyno & tuner for $650.00. The person has been doing dyno's at dealer for 10 yrs... Is there a lot of difference between the 2 tuners.. I know it depends on the tech doing the dyno.

If it was my bike, I would go to Dallas and get it tuned the the TTS.  The TTS is more Capable.  Dealers 95% of the time do not do a correct or complete tune.

I would use Steve at GMR in Dallas, he has a very good reputation.

I wish I had a good tuner only 4 hours away.  It's about 12 hours one way to the tuner I use.  Worth it in my opinion, as I want it done right.

Ask Steve Cole at TTS for recommended TTS tuners in your area.  If anyone would know of good ones in your area, I would think he would.  If Dallas is your closest fully qualified choice, from what I've read it sounds like GMR would be hard to beat.

As for dealerships, I don't care how many years someone claims to have been tuning at a dealership, I would be very leery.  I've known guys, and one in particular comes to mind, who worked at the same dealership for twenty years and they are still just as half azzed now as they were when they started.  Seniority doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Not trying to be a hard or smart @$$ but you started this thread - TTS Tuner in or around the San Antonio area and members responded w/the best tuners close to you. Now you want to spend $650 to buy a new tuner and have someone tune it that you know nothing about (other than he's been "doing dyno's at dealer for 10 yrs"). For me "finding the time to get away" would be more advantageous/productive, and possibly cheaper IMO to get a proper tune w/the existing tuner (which is as good/better than what you getting ready to spend money on). :nixweiss:

I agre with FireDood and this is a very strange deal. You do know that the TTS is software and not a part you just throw away? If you are so concerned about the time to go to Dallas why not try the autotune first, You are only changing pipes, not cams/throttle bodies or a major part.
Also you may or may not know, the HD dude for $650 is probably going to install a canned map, run the bike on the dyno a couple pulls then print out a useless graph and send you on your way.
Good luck.

+1, I have a dealer 15 minutes from my house, but like many dealers frown on a tech spending 4-8 hrs tuning a bike.

I hear the same thing on a very regular basis.. We do in fact tune a fair amount of bikes out of your area.. I understand we are not next door its a day trip.

but what I can say that we will tune your bike  to perfection.
We will make every effort to make it work with your time frame the best we can.
As well we have several killer places to eat very close by. By the time you leave the shop get to where you want to eat, &  look around the 4.5 hour time from will be done and your bike is tuned and ready to go.   Or take a nap on the couch in the waiting room..  Several CVO members  have crashed out on it  .. waiting on the tune. . :2vrolijk_21:  ( maybe I need to start a 'I was here " map on the wall.. )

Either way I hope that you get it sorted out.

I know the tuner isn't a throw away item. I've had TTS Mastertune on my last 3-4 bikes. Just never took time to get a dyno done. Always just ran the map that full sac sent out with the DX pipe and cores. But i plan on keeping this bike now & would like to get it dialed in. Don't get me wrong the bike is running fine on the map i got from full sac. But it could probably run even better if it was dialed in better on dyno.. I'am going to do a couple of V tunes and see what happens from the data i get back.. I'am planning on getting up to the Dallas area & get it on the dyno.

I would concur with your idea of a couple of v-tune runs. It is in easy to follow instructions out her somewhere.  I plugged in and ran an entire weekend vacation recording, ended with 26 files to combine for the tune.  It worked like a champ.  I give thumbs up to flight recorder and v-tune.

Forget the I was here map. You should display a pillow that everyone who falls asleep on your couch has to sign.
