Brake light issues
« on: December 01, 2015, 06:56:19 PM »

I never noticed this when I bought the bike.  My 2010 Softail Convertible has brake lights that function with the brake pedal but not with the brake lever.  I know on the earlier Harleys the brake light switch in the master cylinder could be problematic.  Any ideas short of taking everything apart?  Just thought this might have come up in the past.

Brake lights should work from either the front brake lever or the rear brake pedal. Your little switchy thingy in the master cylinder has likely broken or become dislodged from its nest. Or possibly a broken wire somewhere in the system.  twinotter

I've got a 2010 Softail Convertible.  No cruise.  I think a trip over to the dealer might be in order.  The switch isn't that expensive and, at least, I've got experience replacing one (my 2007 Road Glide had a switch failure at around the 30K mile mark).  Thanks for the help.

Found it.  Pulled the front brake lever off and discovered the switch frozen in the open position.  Luckily, I had purchased one on Thursday in anticipation of this being the issue.  Replaced it in a couple of hours.  Works like a champ.  Now I feel better.
