Damaged front fender: fix or replace?
« on: December 20, 2015, 09:40:29 PM »

I have a big dent on the bottom left side of my front fender.  I don't know when or where it happened, probably hit the curb while backing up and turning around, or coming off a sidewalk (although I don't do that!).  The paint is separated from the metal 2 inches up the fender.

Is it fixable for a reasonable price, or should I just replace the fender?  Is anyone aware of a reputable shop in SoCal who can fix it?

I've also considered different style fenders (Sumax, Klock Werks, Bagger Works).

Any ideas/info appreciated.

Damn Dan, that looks painful!  From the pic it looks like you're actually missing some metal and not just paint.  Hard to tell from the pic and know for sure but did some meat get ground away or bent up there as well?

Just looked it up online and MSRP on a new fender is over a thousand bucks.  (yee gawds!)  If the metal is dinged and if there are other fenders out there you like the lines of better anyway it sure seems like a time to at least consider the alternatives.

Good luck on getting it sorted with as little wallet pain as possible.  Have a good Christmas too!  :drink:

Looks like damage that I've seen before when somebody's dropped off of a curb or off a steep speed bump to hard.

If you've been riding with it for awhile, might want to wait a bit longer and do a search on ebay, craigslist.  Might get real lucky and find somebody with the same paint scheme that went to a bigger front wheel and fender and is now willing to sell their front fender.  :nixweiss:  But even if you can find the same style front fender at a bargain basement price and have to get it painted........

Hate to see that. If you are considering going another route or want to cover up the issue until you can find another OEM fender at a fair price you can always put a chrome lower fender cover on it. Not a cure or something I like but it would at least hide the issue till you decided what to do.

Maybe a professional could use a cold saw or something similar so they dont bubble the paint... and take a little meat off... shouldnt notice a little trimmed off?

OP mentioned that it's his front fender that's damaged. :2vrolijk_21:
