Pig Tail Battery Connection
« on: January 04, 2016, 12:01:33 PM »

Hello All

I did a search but couldn't find anything specifically on my question.  I have a 2015 CVO Limited which has the factory pig tail batter connection.  I know these units are now CAN-bus.  I have a Optimate Dual Program maintainer that can be used on CAN-bus systems or normal 12v systems.  I originally purchased this for my 2012 BMW R1200RT which was CAN-bus controlled 12v socket on the fairing.

http://tecmate.com/products/optimate4cb/

My question is do I run it under the normal non-CAN-bus when connected to the pigtail?  Is the pigtail connected to the CAN-bus wiring or directly to the battery?

Thank you,

The battery tender connector is wired into the P&A circuit through the fuse box, and you don't need any special type of charger.  I'm not sure what the CAN bus circuitry of that charger actually does, but you don't need a special charger for the Harley setup.
