Just received this in the mail today, Harley is offering a five year (2 + 3) ESP for one dollar on 2016 models purchased by 2/29/2016.  I assume the dealer is also kicking in their commission, since they only offer this to people who receive this mailing from their dealership.

Maybe they figured they would loose their shirts if they included them with all of the engine issues.

Yeah, excluding CVO's is kind of hard to figure out, but I'm sure the rocket scientists at H-D have a reason. 

Harley has been counting on the Touring models to offset the poor sales performance of their other models.  When I see them offer an incentive on the Touring models it makes me wonder if they are getting a bit nervous about those as well.

Yeah, I got one of those a while back.  Guess they figure the CVOs will sell without any incentives.  Probably right.

As best I can tell, yes.  I'm guessing this is one of those sales promotions where the dealership also has to chip in, so the flyers are only sent out to those on the participating dealers mailing lists.  Many similar promotions exist in other retail fields, where you see that disclaimer about "only at participating retailers", or some such statement.  I just posted this because I found it enlightening that they now feel the need to offer any kind of promotion on Touring models.  Harley resists any form of discounting more than just about any other company I can think of.

I remember Indian doing something similar last year to entice more folks to purchase. I think they were offering a free three year ESP in addition to the two year manufacturer warranty for a total of five years coverage.

Could this be Harley's belated response?

And I do think they excluded the CVO's because they'd go broke paying for the ESP repairs. I know my ESP has more than payed for itself.....unfortunately....

X2.  If HD is experiencing sagging profits, as an HD senior executive, you surely wouldn't want to extend coverage on the most problematic engine produced since the rebirth of the company.  However, I guess HD is offering the $1 extended coverage on the non-CVOs with the 110.

What's the point?  Why not just offer it for free!

If I was buying a bike now....I would try to haggle and not pay more than $0.87 for the ESP or I would walk!
