2006 CVO Ultra at San Jacinto
« on: February 20, 2016, 01:46:55 PM »

A total shot in the dark, but does anyone here happen to know any history on this one?
A buddy of mine is looking at it and called me.

Low miles, low price, (for a dealer price) makes me want to know what I'm missing. I'm a couple hundred miles away, can't go see it.

That's a 10 year old bike with the previous generation frame and brakes. Why is that a great price?  I'd consider it a fair price for a low mileage 2006 CVO but not some OMG deal.

Agreed, as stated (for a dealer price) not an OMG but still a decent deal on a surprisingly low mileage CVO.
He was actually looking at an older model RG for a lot less but the bells and glitter of the CVO stole his eye. CVOs are known for that, ya know.

After looking closer I noticed the leather tour-Pak; I've only seen very few of those as I think they were special to the 2006 year model. Your friend bought a very clean low mileage, nicely equipped CVO.  In the end, when he goes to trade or sell, he will retain much more of his purchase price than those of us who bought new.  I have always bought new but as I near retirement, my next CVO will likely be a 1-5 year old used CVO with very low mileage and let someone else take the initial depreciation hit. The extra saving will pay for lots of fuel and tires and hotel rooms.  ;D

I've only seen the link and only On the phone. I hope the see the bike tomorrow .

I wonder how many have that leather TourPak? All CUSEs or only black ones or was it an option itself?

That tour pack was exclusive to the 2006 and 2007 CVO Ultra's and all 6 color combinations had them.

Wrongway knows.....I believe he was one of the first on this forum to get an 06.  And......that bike is still being ridden in Nor Cal by another member, Ironhorse.  Dave put a lot of miles on that bike and took really good care of it so like they say about Timex......it just keeps on ticken.  :2vrolijk_21:

I remember those leather tour packs were a bit smaller and so several members got a standard Ultra Classic tour pack off ebay and I know at least one had it painted to match the bike.

I have to admit I've never seen one of those TPs up close.
The paint-matched one on Ironhorse's look outdamnstanding!
I alway wished the factory had carried over the scheme on all of the CVO Tourpaks, mine looks rather plain

Besides being small the leather tour packs to me were hard to care for and easy to damage. Her is my old bike I sold to a friend last summer. It had over 70,000 on it and is fast.

In 2006 on my way to Yellowstone I stopped by the dealer in Victorville, CA. They had an '06 CVO Watermelon (Green paint scheme) on the floor. I asked the salesman about the Camel Hump (CVO Slang for the '06-'07 leather tour pack), and he said that according to the factory it held the same amount of ping pong balls as a full size tour pack. One look inside and I could tell it was smaller. And after having one, I KNEW it was smaller. Since I don't tour with a load of ping pong balls, I knew a full size pack was in order for me. Besides, I missed having the full size rack on the lid to use with my rack bag. Thanks to Joe Zett at Xtreme Dimension, I now have a color matching tour pack.

Your friend will like that bike. The engine is a CVO 103, not to be confused with the 103s coming out these days. It is stroked, has SE Heads and hotter cams. Best of all, it's one of the best engines HD ever made. It is not the fastest engine, or has the most torque. But is it VERY dependable, and with just a little tweaking a good tune, will run right with most 110s.

I bought the same bike brand new and loved it .. I had put 55k miles on it with no problem, until a cage hit me head on while I was stopped at a stop sign. Kid in his moms car blew through the Stop sign and totaled the bike. I'm ok and used the insurance check for a down payment on my new 2015 CVO street glide.... Look at my avitar.... Good luck with the bike wish I still had mine!!!

Had an '06 Watermelon.  Manufactured on 8/25/05 and delivered to me on 9/9/05 so it was pretty early in the model year.  I really liked it even though the green was not the most popular color (the autumn haze was) I though it was a standout.  Unfortunately a side trip off a north GA highway did it in and the insurance company totaled it out.  I was excited to replace it with my '07 cuse2.  Wow, what an improvement - 110" motor, six speed.  Little did I know the grief the '07 would put me through.  But after two replacement motors, the 30 tooth conversion, Fullsac 1.75" cores and a great custom tune the '07 is going strong at 98k.

As for the leather tour paks which both bikes have, I kind of like them.  They are unique, look good and I've had no problems.  Yeah they are definitely smaller but if I'm on a long road trip I pull my Bushtec so no biggie for me.

Hope your friend enjoys his and like Ironhorse said, the 103" SE motor in it is real solid.

I got to see the bike today, but he was out so I've not heard it run, yet. It is even cleaner than the pics, a really nice ride.
