« on: February 28, 2016, 05:13:53 PM »

Anyone know why my alarm goes off when I disconnect the negative cable from the battery.  Fobs are close by.  Any help appeeciated.  Very annoyed.  HD dealership said it should not go off with fob close by

Don't you have to remove the main fuse first?

The rep at the dealership you spoke with is a numnuts.  The steps to unhook the battery have been the same for several years.  No way they can't know that.

1.  Have fob in range of bike
2.  Ignition switch to on
3   Pull main fuse
3.  Disconnect battery

Just my opinion, I think it's admirable for a rider these days to do some of the routine maintenance instead of running to the dealer for every little thing.  But, the maintenance manual is a must.  I have been riding Harleys since 1957 and still use the maintenance manual before performing a procedure.  Answers a lot of questions and avoids confusion and asking the local dealer mechanic who really doesn't want to help you anyway.  JMO
