Baby Got a New Pair of Shoes
« on: May 27, 2016, 01:12:36 PM »

finally got off long shifts so I was able to switch out the stock dunlops for a new set of American elite tires.  J&P had the tires in stock so purchased from them.  no problems, very fast delivery.  I took the wheels down to a local indy to have them mounted and balanced, $70 later, ready to put back on the bike.  even with that, still ahead by about $200 over stock.   i'm thinking that next time, I might just go with the indy or the dealer for replacement.  I don't really have the necessary equipment to make changing a rear wheel expedient.  was kinda a pita trying to get everything lined back up.

I really like the look of the tread pattern compared to the stock, but I haven't gotten a chance to get it out on the road yet.  while the wheels were off, I took the opportunity to do some cleaning in spots that don't normally get cleaned.  with the rain that we have going on, i'd rather wait until it's dry again so I don't mess up the cleaning that I just did.

okay, so road dried up enough between storms that I was able to get a quick 20 mile test ride in.  my first impression is that I didn't realize how much I was 'fighting' the bike with the old tires.  they still had a good amount of tread, but did have a bit of cupping on them.  the wife and I are planning a road trip next month, and I wanted to make sure that I had good rubber for it.

I also noticed that when changing lanes at 70mph, where my old tires would 'wiggle' a little when hitting the painted lines, these new ones just cross right over.  no muss, no fuss.

at first impression, I give these tires a  :2vrolijk_21: and a  :bananarock:

Look forward to doing the same soon. I've been running the AE front for awhile- first front tire I've had in 50,000 miles that hasn't developed sidewall cracks, and it has worn evenly. Tread is getting low (nice to actually replace a tire because the tread is worn, and not because of cracking and cupping).

Now that Dunlop has the AE in 18" rear, I'm looking forward to getting a new set. Good reviews for the AE so far.

There are two rebates on that set of tires right now. $50 from some places (like dealers) and $40 from most others, including Amazon. 50 runs out this month and 40 the end of June.
