« on: June 03, 2016, 07:57:55 PM »

wife and I are going on a long road trip - kids may want to call while on the bike - can we both talk and hear on the call - or not
i asked on another forum but got conflicting answers - no big deal - just figured i'd ask here to see if others have this experience.

I sure hope the passenger is the only one engaged in a phone call when riding a bike......There are many threads on this site where people post about how much we hate car/truck drivers who are distracted talking on their phone and texting etc. Just my .02 but we don't need to join the inattentive masses on the road. Seems like it would make sense to set up times to pull off the road for a break and make a call or wait until you stop for the night to make update calls?
I guess it's a sign of my old age but I don't feel the need  to be constantly plugged in. My family traveled all over the country and we did fine with pay phones or using the phone at the motel.
I have seen other threads where some riders get a tracking app so that their family can follow the rider around the country in real time and that may be fun for a young family member to follow your adventures?

I guess one way to test it is plug your headset into the passengers receiver, hit the command button and say call .......
It should respond to your command.

We have a 2015 limited. And on our short ride down to Bend Oregon we got a call while riding. As I told the wife I couldn't remember how to "answer the call" , might be the command, the call was answered. At first Lynn couldn't hear the caller, as the caller talks the passenger needs to turn up the volume, this also worked for when the navigation commands come across.

Take a phone call while riding. Yeah, NOPE.

I didn't even tell my wife that my bike will answer the phone. The only thing I want to hear when I'm on the bike is my exhaust and my music.

AND, if you get a text it will "speak/read" it back to you. But you can not respond back while moving.

For myself - my wife sells real estate and I am FOREVER waiting for her to get off the phone when we stop. So rather than hook up to the Bluetooth, I'm getting a Sena on a full face helmet and she can talk all she wants without distracting me. However, I cant complain to much.......cause she's making $$$. Just another thought. Even with Sena you can get a splitter that will allow 2 different Bluetooth connections or sources. I don't want to be talking and riding.

My wife talks on the bike thru the phone all the time, health problems with elderly parents have made this somewhat important. I either just thumb down my volume or listen but I don't converse with them.
I do like that the infotainment makes available an "I am on the bike and will call you back as soon as I stop" function for texts,  This has worked out well for me when riding solo.
I agree we are all on the cell phone to much but there are no more pay phones (???) and if their were somebody would rob you while using it.  So I have tried to adapt to the times and my cell is always with me and the bike an an extension of it that increases convince and lets us ride further without stopping. f
