Velva Ride Stabilizer Links
« on: August 02, 2016, 02:53:15 PM »

I purchased a pair of Velva-Ride Stabilizer Links (not the motor mount) from V-Thunder (CompCams) and installed them back in 2007 when I purchased my 2007 CVO Ultra.  I just installed an S&S124 and removed them because of their age and put back in the factory rigid links.  The stock ones are transferring a lot of vibration to the frame.  I was looking to by a new set of the Velva-Rides which leads me to the following question.

A polished set (they don't offer chrome) from Comp Cams is between 300 and 400 dollars.  Yikes!  :confused5:

On the V-twin Mfg. site they advertise chrome Velva-Ride links and can be purchased for as low as 62 bucks each?  :bananarock:

Anyone know if they are one-in-the-same or are they cheap knock-offs? :nixweiss:

Thanks!

The Velva-Ride polished stabilizer kit (2 stabilizer links) runs about $400 full pop, but many places sell them for less.  They don't offer chrome, and didn't when I bought mine many years ago.  I can't remember what the price was back then, but I do remember they weren't cheap.

There are many listings on ebay.  I assume you want the polished set, so the part number would be 9600P KIT

Anything offered for $60 in chrome is obviously just a regular link, not the Velva-Ride urethane link.

Why replace them just because they'd been in service a few years?  If you didn't see any signs of actual deterioration there is no reason not to keep right on using the ones you had.  They should last a very very long time.

True.  The parts are made with a very tough urethane elastomer, so they don't deteriorate like rubber.

Thanks everyone. The ones on the v twin mfg site says they are indeed Velva ride and they have a photo and look identical.

Yes the ones I have now are the $400 set but they are worn and loose.

As stated the v-thunder does not come in chrome.

Hate to waste money if they are sourced from the same mfg.

VT No: 31-1983
Chrome Velva Ride engine stabilizer features a steel body with plunger and urethane dampener that creates a mini shock absorber.
 Fits:
FLT 1979-2008
FXD 1991-UP
FXR 1982-1994
 UOM: 1 - EA
Country of Origin: Imported

V-Thunder claims theirs are made in the USA; the Chrome ones you  posted a link to are imported.  I'm betting China, where copying other companies products (and aircraft) is a state sponsored event.  Just sayin'.
