Daymaker vs. Denali M7 LED
« on: August 05, 2016, 09:36:13 AM »

Hey guys,

So I've had the Daymaker on my Fatboy Lo and I was underwhelmed, especially when I turned the brights on.
I've spoken to my friends at www.twistedthrottle.com and they recommend the Denali M7 LED.  Supposed to put light an additional 200 feet down the road as opposed to the Daymaker.

Furthermore, using the "All-On" adapter (about $28.00) allows the low and hi beams to be on at the same time which I'm told is a major advantage (along with better optics) over the Daymaker.

What a can say about Denali is they make outstanding quality lighting.  I had their D2's on my BMW and was very happy.
Anyone have any experience with this?  They are even available at Revzilla and cheaper than the Daymaker at $429.  If I get it, I'd sell my Daymaker.

Here's Revzilla's link, http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/denali-led-headlight-module
Here's Twisted Throttles link,  http://www.twistedthrottle.com/denali-m7-dot-led-headlight-module-7-0-round-black-chrome

Available in chrome or black.

Thoughts?

Try it and let us know. I'm looking forward to seeing how they work.

Once I have confirmation that the Denali is far superior to the Daymaker, I will do just that.  But not gonna waste money until I'm sure.

Who actually makes the product?  All I see are links to revzilla and twisted throttle in a google search.  It's easy to make claims and pretty charts, I'd rather see an unbiased comparison by a third party, if such a thing occurs any more.  We used to be able to believe magazine reviews back in the day, but most of those reviews these days are fluff pieces promoting any product that advertises in the mag.

I agree.  It's made by Denali.  I think it is Twisted Throttles in house brand.  I will say, I've been there and seen all the Denali lighting products 1st hand and purchased their D2 LED lights.  They seem to be of high quality.

The only experience I have regarding the Daymaker HD lamps was on my 09 SERG, and once they were properly aimed, they were amazing. The best motorcycle lighting I had used in the 50+ years I have been riding and I promise I have tried every PIAA/Halogen/Xenon etc that came along.
I did have to raise the point of aim above and to the right substantially vs where the Halogens before had been but once I did they were so efficient that when I bought the '15 I felt like I was going backwards.
I would sure want some sort of vibration testing on the Denali brand prior to spending $400+ dollars based on a retailer who was pushing his house brand. But if they really do perform please let us know.

I think my plan is to see how the stock Daymaker is compared to my Fatboy and as you brought up a good point of re-aiming if necessary.

Denali has been hot in the ADV market for quit a while now and is well respected in that arena. Branching into the HD market they've only copied, as many others have, the daymaker footprint. They do however list the type and manufacturer of their diodes, very rare to see.  Unfortunately everyone has only been copying the daymaker platform instead of being more innovative. Aside from the the size and type of the LED's and reflective/refractive materials used, they will all be similar. Most all are listed as 19w/19w or 19w/22w for the 7". Rule of thumb is up to 100 Lumin per watt, raw/usable, depending on the criteria listed above but most will be in the 80L per W area. If the Lamps platform remains the same, the throw, or distance and spread, will be based on the criteria as well and will remain similar through the manufacturers. Choose your poison.
Although I will change my lamp out when the price is reflective of the quality and output, I opted to change my passing lamps over to 60W/6000Lumen ea Led's. Other than for aesthetics I don't need the additional out put.

I was thinking based on the last bit of info to add this rather than swapping the headlamp.  At least this way, you are adding more light...
