Infotainment - weather and traffic
« on: February 27, 2016, 09:29:14 PM »

Just took delivery of a 2016 CVO Street Glide, called Sirius and had radio, traffic and weather turned on. XM stations work great, no traffic and weather. Checked owners manual and says Sirius weather and traffic are built in. Question is how do I activate traffic and weather??

The bike comes with a three-month Sirius music subscription.  The traffic and weather are a separate subscription from Sirius.

Our '15s had it with it. I wonder if they cheapened that up for the '16s also?

Activation of the XM is supposed to be part of the dealer delivery experience. The selling dealer sales guy is supposed to have it activated and then explain and show you how to use it while explaining the bike.
This is the same with a bike or a car, I bought a couple new (GM) vehicles in the recent past and the poor uninformed salesman both times attempted to explain how to use the Radio/XM/Nav/Traffic/Weather system. Evident he had never used these systems before, but he tried.
Either way no big deal just call XM and it should only take a few minutes, bike will need to be outside or where it can get a signal so they can flash it. Works pretty good, I like the traffic deal as there is heavy support locally, in some rural areas I assume it would be useless but in heavy traffic metro areas I like and use it.
Also when I renewed I was able to get the traffic/weather for $36.00/year in addition to regular XM service.

My bike was delivered in Dec of '14. I live in the rust belt. I waited until May to activate my services and did not have any issue doing so. I had all winter to read the 230 page manual to figure out how to use it. Just pointing out that what may be part of the delivery experience may not always be practical.

If you contact XM you should be able to get them to upgrade the free trial to include weather and traffic at no extra charge

What does the key cost or tire pressure monitoring have to do with XM giving you a free trial in an attempt to sell there service to you?
XM free is not paid by Harley/GM or Acura for that matter, it is a service supplied by XM.

I agree.  How difficult can it be?  Have had Sirus/XM radio on cars and MC for a few years.  Pretty straight forward.  Just like any other radio function.   :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I only just got around to sorting Lucille's Sirius XM out today. I am mainly interested in weather & forecast when travelling as i have enough good music to keep me going for the next couple hundred years or so. Tried to set it up a while ago but young lady on phone was not equipped to do the job. Got an English speaker today no probs free trial on the whole shebang (2015) and it seems to work. Will test it tomorrow on the way to FL. Hopefully the weather will be so good I can't tell if it works.

Cheers Tom

I had the same problem when I called the REGULAR number for XM radio they could not turn on the traffic and weather. The weather and traffic has a different telephone number. The number I called was 1-800-985-9200 they had no problem setting it up at all they even explained how to put the service on hold for the winter.

Just hung up from that same number -- three calls, three reps and one manager -- and all informed me that XM Canada does not support the Traffic or Weather service for my radio (2016 FLTRUSE) even though the manual says it does.  Will talk to the dealer tomorrow but no dice for my upcoming weeks on the road.  I have three other radios including one on my '08 StreetGlide in the US and one on my BMW 435i here in Calgary that all have this service working.

You aren't the first one here to have trouble with XM service; in fact, it was a topic a while back.  At one point XM insisted I owed them money b/c the service had re-activated (in March after winter suspension) without me knowing it had, and when I got a bill from them I called to say "no way."  They refused to waive it, so after several useless minutes I told them to cancel both of my XM subscriptions and told the credit card company not to send any automatic payments to XM.

About 3 months later XM sent me a letter offering 6 months of service for $30 w/o activation fees, so I took that.  Others on here have had similar discounts offered when they went to cancel service.  So keep that in mind when they try to gouge you $400 for a year's service.

I turn mine on and off every year for 6 months 24.99 + tax and fees 29.00

When I call I tell them I received an email with this $24.99 offer and they turn it on they will try to talk you in to all kinds of crap the big thing is do not give them a credit  card tell them to bill you. You do have to call to have it shut off at the 6 months or they will re up it at the full price.
