My reference of Showa suspension of Honda fame was a bit tongue and cheek for the fact I didn't read any where  who manufactured the new suspension. now let me be clear, the 2017 may be a higher grade Showa suspension in the front, where that fits on the Showa front suspension rating list remains to be seen due to the fact it was made to Harley specs. for the ultimate rating only Showa would know. The Honda reference was to mean one size does not fit all like Harley has done in the past. Being the past owner of a 1998 Honda Valkyrie for 15 years and 58,000 miles which to this day is the best bike out of the box I have ever owned and ridden. The Valkyrie suspension is different than the suspension in the Goldwing and both suspensions rode great. But this is only my opinion.

My way of thinking, if Harley wants sales up they are going to need to focus on reliable built machines, new group of riders have to many choices of rides that are truly put gas in  and change oil and ride for 100,000 plus miles. New riders while they may like Harley I think will shop cost for there money ie best deal best product. But I hope new bikes are good and hope sales are through the roof .

4 valves heads are on every other bike made. The values on the 2014 to 2016 bikes will go back up when the left overs clear out and the new 2017 are over retail. It's the same way in the auto industry. Our stage 1 cvo's make more HP and TQ then the new Milwaukee 8. I think it's great Harley is improving there bikes. I have to say, my 2016 twin cooled CVO Streetglide has 0 heat issues and a lot of power for a stock but tuned bike. I really like the handling as well. The new bikes can't be played with/ properly tuned under warranty and that is an issue for a lot of people. My thinking is motor heads will still want Twin Cams. My 2013 ultra limited sold for $18500 this year. Resale will be back when the dust settles lol.

The stage 1 info will have absolutely no effect on resale. 95% of purchasers do absolutely no engine upgrades and most feel that if you had engine work done then you are probably beating your bike. So, I think most feel engine upgrades actually lessen value. Only my opinion of course.

Don't trade and you have no resale value worries..... ;D

Yea, I know....shut up, haird.... :bananarock:

I will say this (and it may come back to bite me at some point) but I'm as happy with Beauregard as I've been with any HD product so far (and there have been quite a few).  It fits me.  Yes it's fun to speculate on the new offerings from the mother ship and I do hope they have a winner with the Milwaukee 8.  I'll just putt around on my 110 and rebuild/rework/replace as needed for the duration.  I believe this is the bike I can do that with....

Resale is a bad word right now, however.  I remember the value drop in Shovels (although that wasn't much of a drop...) with the Evo intro and the Evo devaluation with the Twin Cam intro.  It's happening again.  If you want the newest/brightest/best-est offering, ya gotta pay fer it.  Fact of life....

In '68 a Sportster listed for about 1747.00, i was in flight school with 3 months to go until NAM.

Stopped at Potter HD in Albany, Ga., one man shop, one sportster in stock, the show room was the size of your garage, maintenance shop the same.

He sold me the 68 sportster for 1500.00 cash, thru in a helmet because he believed in them.

Six years later, buying a house with a baby on the way, I sold the sportster with straight pipes and a chrome oil tank for 2350.00.

At 70, i'm not thinking about resale, this one will carry me all the way.

The CVO's are beautiful bikes, significantly nicer than non CVO bikes.  I think a well maintained, with reasonable to lower mileage CVO, will still bring a good price in the private market in a year or two.

I was out ridding two nights ago and while my lights looked pretty good, but i decided to crank my headlight up a half turn and fire for effect.

Until you make that fateful decision enjoy the hell out of it, ride it, clean it, admire it.  There is a lot of value there.

The days of making, or breaking even are far behind us, you have to consider all of the pleasure you have gotten over the years from the bike.  Work that into the equation and it may help you rationalize the price you may get.

I don't know of anybody making any money when they sell their car or truck.

Interesting conversation with my main sales guy...a pretty decent individual actually.  Anyway he said over the weekend the 2016 bikes were selling better than the 2017 models.  Not sure what that says if anything...just adding to the conversation.

More of the '16's around?  Discount on the '16's to get them out of the dealership?  And of course the folks that are a'waitin for the other shoe to drop (translate: sumtin 2 go wrong...) on the Milwaukee 8.

Probably all of the above. And remember the twin cam is the last true Harley according to some folks...or was that the Knuckle, or Shovel, or Evo, or????

Maybe the value of the Twin cam will go up???.....if the testing the unwitting consumer does finds all the flaws.

Everything that has book value goes down...just the nature of the beast. There is a real glut of HD bikes on the market.  Simple supply and demand.
