Have an LCD OIL Temp Gauge? Check your Oil!
« on: April 09, 2007, 04:35:04 PM »

Hello all,

For some reason, maybe it was raining and I was bored, I decided to physically check my oil.  The other day, while riding in 86 degree weather, the motor, for the first time, showed 245 after some very hard running. Never saw it that high before. That was my motivation to check it out.  I checked the LCD stick and it showed a tad, just a tad below perfect. Still not satisfied...........

I took my old dipstick, the stock one, and then checked my oil with it.  It showed a quart low.   Hmmm. Then the brain said self, compare the two dipsticks.   The comparison was clear, the stock stick was not exactly the same length. What a pisser! (yes it was the correct part on the pkg, did someone repackage it?)

So now, when I physically check the oil COLD, my LCD dip needs to read about 3/4 up the checkered boxes, or 2 little boxes down from the top of hot full, to give me a normal reading that my stock one did.

The result?  10 degrees cooler.  Extra, or correct fill really makes a diff in the warm climes. I would be interested to see if anyone else makes this compare, and lets me know.

I compared mine before changing it. They are exactly the same length. Did you get the right year LCD Rhino? The '07 is different. Hoist! 8)

Chief, I think Rhino always comes up a little 'short'.

I went out and compared my stock one to the LCD and they are the same length...I didn't know that there was an 06 model screw-in oil stick...thought that was new for 07  :nixweiss:.  Do the Dyna ones screw in now too?  Maybe you got a dyna stick mis-packaged in the touring bubble pack? ???
Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

Wouldn't be the first time something got put in the wrong package.  The one I got for my '04 is the identical length to the original.  I'd say return it to wherever you got it and ask for another one.

New stick is too long.  That's what the counter girl said at the Harley shop when I showed it to her. She said I had the right part.

Rhino

In any event, I know where to put my stick in to, to make it measure good.
