Fork Fluid Change?
« on: November 16, 2016, 12:47:30 PM »

I have the Ricor Intiminators in the front forks, which I've had in there for about 40,000 miles. I want to eventually do the Ohlins FKC 101 and CCE Dresser Tour Trac Tree, but in the meantime I'm sure I'm way overdue for a fork fluid change.

My question is, is it a quick job to change out the fork fluid, or is it one of those things I might as well wait and do once my forks are apart?

Thought maybe there is a drain on the bottom of the fork tubes, and that is all it takes to drain out the fluid. Or do the fork tubes have to come off?

There is a drain screw near the bottom of each leg, but if you're planning to remove the fork legs for other work I'd just wait until they are off the bike and dump them.

I just did the fluid change in my RG with the Intimidators.  It's not a hard job, just time consuming. The drains are on the bottom of the fork, but the hard part is getting to the fork caps to add the new fluid. Depending on your model, there are quite a few parts that have to be removed.  Remember to use a 5wt fork oil for the Intimidators.  Hint - add half of the required 10.8oz then cycle the forks a few times, then add the rest VERY SLOWLY. Ask me how I know this....
