Audio Volume
« on: December 30, 2016, 06:11:51 PM »

I have noticed that while riding at highway speeds the audio volume is lacking a bit.  I can run the volume indicator up, but the sound actually stops getting louder at about 3/4 volume.  Is this in the programing?  Is there a way around the volume control setting?

Have also been looking at the Hogtune Gen #3 replacement speakers and was wonder how big of difference they would make over the stock Boom Speakers.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Many better choices than Hogtunes for about the same money that are night and day from stock system. Do a search here, millions of threads about it

I don't think H-D has gotten the Automatic Volume Control "AVC" correct, yet.  See if this helps. First make sure you have the latest software upgrade. Even then, after you start the bike, going to your setup menu and reset the AVC.  Many times, my stereo does not come to life until I do that.

Greg is right.  Sounds like your AVC is off.

The software version 1.20.1 fixed the AVC on my 15 CVO road glide ultra so I did not have to reset it every time I started the bike.

My 17 has the 1.20.1 software and have never had an issue with the AVC, I have 7200 miles on the bike already.

Assuming AVC is either off or working, does the volume stop increasing at 3/4 scale for anyone else?  Easy enough to check, try it sitting still so you can eliminate the entire AVC thing and any affect from engine, road, and wind noise.  If it's like previous Harley audio systems, the quality of the sound as you near full output will likely be pretty poor and full of distortion.  I was under the impression Harley had reconfigured the amps after having so many speakers and amps fail on the Street Glides not long ago.  The easy fix for blowing speakers for instance is to limit amp output, versus cleaning up that output to eliminate the speaker damaging distortion.

Just thinking out loud.

On my 15 SERGU the volume kept increasing past 3/4 scale.  IF AVC is off, the volume will not get as loud as it will with the AVC set to 4 bars (max), even with the bike sitting still.  However it is much more noticeable when moving.

My 17 is so loud with the AVC set to 4 bars I have not tired to go past 3/4 with the bike not moving, I do not even believe I have gone past 1/2 with it not moving.

I love that!

I have a good work schedule, work 3 weeks, get three off.  So the bike is sitting for the next three weeks.  However when I get home, I am riding to Key West, so I'll have anther 2200 miles or so on it.  Loving the new motor so far.
