Build ideas for 2014 CVO Limited
« on: October 22, 2016, 08:26:17 PM »

Subtitle: Winter Project

Dealer has 20 percent off SE kits, puts the 117 with 259 cam and other items at. $1800 out door with tax

Without going through 1k posts on the 117, which is where I got half my ideas (600 cam, different piston for 10.5:1, having heads sent out, Cometic gasket).

What parts and build would you choose, compression goal?  For the 110 to 117? Lifters, anything other? Or use the kit?

Especially interested in those responses from the people who have it done and some miles.
Ride style- I go cross country and around town. 1000 mile days to dinner rides. 8-10k a year. Two up most of the time. Running SE tuner and VH powerduals and hi-output slip ons for 17k with no problem. Worry about lifters soon?

For the 117 and doing touring and such I would look at using the 259E cam with better pistons for compression, around 10.8 to 1 or so.  The 259E likes more compression than the HD kit pistons have.

Head work will help a lot, talk to Don on this site, site name is HD Street Performance.

I had built a CVO road king with his head work, 10.8 pistons 259E cam, 5.3 injectors and an HPI 55 throttle body.  This was a 110 and just over 120 HP and 122 torque.  I road it from TN to Key West, then to the Apostle Islands in northern WI.  Put over 10K on it before I took it down again to turn it into a 117.

I will do some mild touring on it now but have to watch the gas close due to 11.4 to 1 compression and much more lift cam.  Its at 138.4 hp and just over 140 torque.  Changed nothing with the head work Don did on the last build.

Very impressive. Sounds like she is a runner. Keep your ideas in mind. Never ran the 259 but did the Woods 400 and 408 at 10:5:1 with 40 and 42  intake closes. Like to have that low to mid 40's and agree on paper 10.8 would be great with 259 Would be happy at 10:1 if a early close was offered.

The cam in the 117 build is a WoodsT W-9B-6 cam.  Bike is really smooth and easy to ride.

Here's a Touring build that will tour anywhere in the country, run on pump gas & Let er' Rip when you roll the throttle (see attachment)

The 259 can work but needs more comp ratio to improve the low end tq. And it will not be as snappy under light throttle rolls on as a smaller cam.

Head work will yield more Hp above 4500 Ish , so if that is a area you like to buzz the engine up to go for it .

We have a 117 going together with stock heads,  58 Se FBW and our 577.. I know that its not going to set any records for HP . However the tq curve will be stellar. And really for most that will be all they need.  Simple basic build that will have a massive low end tq curve peaking in the 130 range hard to find fault with that.. Think Diesel truck on a chip ..  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Dont forget that its is all about the complete package.. Right pipe right mufflers with correct size core.

On another note we are doing 4 117 right now , that aside the one I am looking forward to has the new Fulsac mufflers on it not a core kit his new mufflers. + DX head pipe . I am going to tune and give it to the customer with the 2.0 cores, but will also test the 1.75 cores as well and re tune for a wot pull with the smaller core..  :pepper:

Look forward to seeing the differences between the 2.0 and 1.75 cores.

What compression on the 577 build and are The pistons in the Harley kit or something else?

Not stuck on the kit in anyway but like to get a list of what and where to get parts. HP not most important and bike sees 4500 only for moments on any ride. Whether is pulling out or playing around. 90 percent of time 2-3.5 k range just like most everyone.

117 kit is approx 10.1 with the 040 HG swap to the 030 and 10.2 and leave it alone. its all what you want as a final package..

Table top of torque out of a 113!

That's my baby :) Daren made an already fun bike a blast to ride with that build.

To the original poster: I had High Outputs for a while. I couldn't believe how much the bike was asleep under 3000rpm until I replaced them with Crushers. If you are going to do a major overall, may not be a bad idea to visit a pipe with a baffle closer to 2" that's proven. Some don't mind a little performance sacrifice for the sound. I for one would rather sacrifice some volume to not leave any performance on the table. Good luck with your build, anxious to see how it turns out!

I had those on my 09 SERG as I loved the sound.  Had a tuner show me how much they left on the table below 3000 rpm, compared to Fullsac 2.0 or 2.25.  Switched to the fullsac 2.25 on that bike.  Have run the same on my 12 SERG, then my 15 SERGU, all of which have been traded.  Will be running the 2.25 on my 17 SESG.

My 138 HP and 140.5 torque 13 SERK is also running the Fullsac head pipe and 2.25 baffles.  I

I would much rather have the low end torque than the sound I love.

20 percent sale back on in stock parts. Have to check but whole 2100 kit seems to be deal over cylinders and Pistons. Then add a cam and lifters. Then intake and gaskets. Just add the .030 gasket and call it done like said above. Like to bring compression up little more. Maybe have heads touched by someone here?
