2015 CVO Limited Front Speaker Not Working
« on: January 11, 2017, 05:03:00 AM »

Performed the latest Firmware upgrade this weekend and when finished turned on the radio to check everything was OK only to find the Right Hand Front Speaker is not working.
Now I don't blame the new firmware as it's more than 12 months since I have used the speakers.
As the AVC has never worked on my bike I have just always used the Headset. I did this latest Firmware upgrade in the hope that maybe the AVC might have been fixed.
What I'm looking for is ideas as to what may be wrong with the speaker and suggestions as to how to locate and rectify the problem.
My thoughts at present is to take off the Fairing and check the connections, connect the left hand side speaker to the right hand side wiring which will tell me if the speaker is OK. All help appreciated.

I have had this happen twice.  Once on one of the saddlebag speakers of my 12 CVO SG and once on one of the front speakers of my 14 CVO Limited.  It was the amp both times, which is not unusual with these.  I checked it by switching speakers around to see if it was the speaker or something else in the system.

Another way see if the speaker is blown is measure the resistant through the input leads.  with a meter. If I recall it should be 4 ohms

Could also be shorted or open leads to the speaker from the Amp or head?    If you swap speaks and the channel is still dead,  I would suggest disconnect the other end from the head & or amp and test the wires for continuity to each other (In case they are pinched,) and to ground.   Then probe from one end of the wire to the other end to make sure they are not open (broke.) and they have continuity....

I have had a ton of speaker issues on 15 CVO as well. Sometimes the issue was just a loose connection.
You had mentioned it only has been 12 months since you used the speaker, is the bike only 12 months old? If so, take it back to the dealer they should cover it for up to 2 years.

No its 27 months old now. Its just that I gave up on the AVC working and have been using the headset instead. Was hoping the new Firmware upgrade may have fixed the AVC problem. Only way the AVC would work was to turn it off after starting bike then turn it on again. A common problem described elsewhere in this forum.
Thanks to the replies so far, all very helpful and I will try them all.
Heard back from the dealer today who said they needed to see the bike and connect it up to their scan tool to find the problem. Will do that as a last resort, would like to try to eliminate everything else before I do that though.

You can check the speaker out easily as mentioned about with a multi-meter.  Speakers have different ohms but typical is 4.  If the speaker is bad it will be zero or infinity.  Also, you could simply disconnect the good speaker and jumper the wires from the bad one to the good one. If it works you know it is the speaker. if it doesn't work you can be pretty sure it is anything from wires back.  You could go the other way as well (good to bad) to prove the speaker is good. This can be harder but you can check the wires from the amp back to the speaker looking for a short between the ends and no short to ground on each wire.  Hopefully it is not the anything else. Just my thoughts on figuring it out.  Let us know what you find.
