Rinehart true dual Bung Adjustment
« on: March 21, 2007, 02:38:43 PM »

With the help of Rhino and another buddy we used a 2 maybe 3 foot pry bar / crowbar with a mini sledge took about 4 even pops on the top side of the bung opposite the head shield and wahhla over a 1/4 of room for a wideband sensor.    We didnt need to take off the lower fairing, but we did to be safe.   Place a bolt into the bung to not disturb the threads while you wack the bung and then used never sieze on the threads on the wide band.   I would recommend at least a 3 inch bolt if your going to relocate yours a littlle bit for clearance.  The thing here guys is its made out to be tougher than it really needs to be it was really that easy for those contemplating doing this.

Here is the better news.   When I called into Rinehart techsupport and then sent the post from Zippers to backup what was said they said if I ran into any problems while "relocating" the bung with the Ding method they would stand behind the pipe.  Getting the ok took 2 days, but was worth waiting on.

Copout thanks for being the guinnea pig on this one.

Glad the "adjustment" worked and they said they would stand behind the pipes if they broke.  It's amazing what we sometimes have to do to get something to work/fit.   :2vrolijk_21:

Boatman,

Your right it is amazing that you have to jump through so many hoops at times.   The good part in this case is that it turns out to be a little work and knowing that yet again Rinehart has done right by me again.   Can't ask for much more really, even though it was a bit frustrating to start out.

Bisounours,

Pictures are really over rated on this one since I didn't take a before and after to really show much clearance was gained by doing this.   Now for those with imagination here is the picture for you.

Imagine holding a 2 foot crow bar with a flat end on it and holding it against and just above the bung (12 O'clock if you imagine the bung as a clock face.)   while having a 3 inch bold stuck in the bung pointing down.    Now you draw the hammer back and whack the bar, put bar back in place whack it again rinse repeat 3 or 4 times and you notice that the wideband sensor now fits.

Generally the guy swinging the hammer has the smile on his face and is having fun except for the ohh chit I hope I don't ruin my pipe feeling.

I will try and post of picture of the clearance obtained once done.

This mod was really much easier than we thought. It took very little to get the resulting clearance.  The pipe looks no different, there was really no stress, I was happy, and so was Unbalanced, it was done on his bike. All is well for that mod for sure.

The red arrow is where we tapped the pipe with a fair amount of force

Another view from the primary side  so you can see you can easily get to this with a crow bar type of tool

The Red U indicates where your trying to get the clearance for the larger sensor.   The next picture will show the clearance obtained although I probably should have taken a before picture to see it wouldnt fit and how far off it was.

Here is the clearance its actually a bit more than is needed, but it makes it easier than having to scrunch up the wire to get it in place to thread.

Thanks Harry, :2vrolijk_21:

Your pics confirm my understanding of this operation.
Your explanations were good but my english is too poor.
When it's too technical, I must not make a mistake.

Good pics Harry.  Say ya think its better to Tweak it while its on the ground?  or isn't the impact any big deal to the flange gaskets integreity?   ???

We checked mine for leaks and there were no leaks at all.   When I got home I gave the nuts on the flange a double check anyhow to suffice my own fears :)

We could have done this on the ground, but it was much easier using a full lift to do it so we weren't on our knees.   If you have access to a lift it helps I think because it also helps to steady the front end when you give the bike the shock of the whack.

If I didn't have a lift it would have just made it a bit more cumbersome to get the crowbar on there and then whack it.  I would however recommend 2 people so that you can be sure the bike is going nowhere.
