2017 Street Cannon / Street Tune
« on: May 11, 2017, 05:34:54 PM »

So I bought the Street Cannons mainly because I don't like the way the stock mufflers look.  The catalog says it requires the pro street tuner.  The CVO comes with the Ventilator already so does that mean it already has a stage 1 tune or do I need to buy the tuner still?  It sounds fine at idle and cruising but I am not digging the deceleration sound and wondering if this is due to not having the street tuner.

PS I am looking at staying within warranty on this one and not going to hook an aftermarket tuner up to the bike at this time.

What sound is it making on decel?  Popping, backfiring, or just not as deep and/or loud as you'd like?  "Decel Enleanment," the opposite of Accel Enrichment, often takes care of the backfires caused by the incorrect air:fuel ratio (AFR).  That requires a tuner box.

It's not really a popping sound because the cat masks most of the noise. I would describe it as sort of a farting or gurgling sound. Almost like one of those ricer fast and furious hondas but only when I chop the throttle off.

Probably gonna bite the bullet at service tomorrow and buy the street tuner. I had the High Flow system on my 2015 to eliminate heat and it didn't make this noise.

Keep in mind that the Harley Street Tuner will only remap within 50 state emission requirements.    If you are looking for a more versatile tuner, look for a Vance And Hines Fuelpak or a TTS.  I personally recommend the Fuelpak unless you are going for a full race tune and absolute Max performance, then the TTS offers more parameters.

you don't need to re-tune. but if you tune with the HD tuner it will raise your idle to 950 rpm and it will red line 6500 rpm per the dealer.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to investigate exactly what parameters you can adjust with that Street Tuner before buying one.  Once it's hooked up for the first time and married to your bike, it's worthless to anyone else so unless you just want to throw money away make sure it will do what you want to do.  Just downloading one of Harley's street legal maps may not change the settings you need, and if the settings you need to modify affect emissions you won't be able to adjust them with that device.  I'm not saying I know the answer to your problem, I'm just recommending you look before you leap.

So just got back from service and bought the street tuner. I am happy to report it restored the bikes performance and fixed the deceleration sound issues. Exhaust sounds great and bike is running great. Thanks everyone!

Glad to hear that took care of it.  When HD settled the EPA's lawsuit about non-emission-legal tuning and limited the dealers to street-legal fuel maps with the Street Tuner, it really crimped the dealers' ability to fix problems.
