I see the stereotypes and grouping of people as some people's way of quickly judging someone and in a way trying to determine whether that person is above or below them in status.
Where it shows most to me is when someone doesn't want to admit they have personal faults and want to blame another group for all their problems.
Each race and group of people have folks they should be proud of and examples to be very ashamed of also.
All that being said I think society has gotten too sensitive and politically correct for it's own good. Should a person loose their job for being insensitive or obnoxious at the expense of freedom of speech?
The old saying is "I may hate what you say, but I will defend the right for you to say it."
Like trying to make a "safer" country by giving up our freedoms and rights should be seriously thought about too.

Modern day lynching is all I have to say. The biggest idiots crying foul about this, dont know the whole story talked about that day , and never have listened to imus in the past nor understand his dry sense of humor, so he offended a few women basketball players with an off color remark, now that he is fired, who is going to make up the loss of his many charities, and yearly radio marathons that he runs, raising millions for youth ....including nappy headed kids of any color?.   These college women must be the most un-educated college students in the U.S. if so easily offended by words. Don't be surprized if a couple of them are so 'Offended' that they sue Imus and his ex-employer.

This country is becoming a bunch of pansies. Minority rules all of a sudden (Not racially - Numerically). Atheists make up less than 5% of the country yet we end up with a supreme court case about God in the pledge of alleigence. Gays and Lesbians are very small minority groups, but ya wouldnt know that looking at mainstream tv, and yet they are forcing the rest of americans to change the definition of marriage (personally do whatever ya like, I have no problem with civil unions, but marraige is what it is - an often failed union between a man and woman). Imus screwed up, and apologized. "Rev" Al & Jessie both have "screwed up" in the past and apologized and its all good - but Imus - still bad....I remember Prez. Clinton had an indescretion and sought forgiveness - with "Rev" Jessie's help - and rightfully he kept his job. Imus should have been suspended, but for Al to demand his firing - threatening NBC he would protest and boycott all NBC sponsors and CBS - that is some self rightous BS. Truth be told amongst the black community the "Rev's" represent a very very small minority, but you wouldn't know it from the news media tour Rev Al was on last week. On that note also, lets stop all the rap says bad stuff too BS, who cares - it's just music with a relativley small audience - let them say their crap - just makes them look like the posers they are - a lady knows a real man wouldn't talk like that, and the kids will learn that too. Imus is Imus, raises tons of cash for lots of kids, a good guy with a mean ole man sense of humor. He's rude and he was wrong, and he apologized - to the girls - that should be the end of it, unless the market (his audience) tosses him out - thats not what happend here - Rev Al got him tossed...

Should be interesting, this week Hillary was to visit with the Rutgers girls and Oprah was going to help "start the healing process" .......

Yesterday kinda took the air out of that balloon full of hot air.....

A different tack on the whole Imus mess.  In the past he's relatively regularly said as bad or worse cracks when talking about Jews.  Why didn't that get his ass in trouble?  What's the difference?  Or, more pointedly, why is there a difference?

There isn't a difference, just a better complaining crew - raise a better ruckus - get better results!

WOW!!!  You guys are a hullofa lot smarter than you LOOK :P  It is funny that I was having the same conversation via e-mail with my daughter a couple of days ago, I made some of the points you have made and she countered with the others.  What is amusing is that she goes to Rutgers and she said any publicity is good publicity.  She hates bigotry and agrees those that are profiting are the same ones that are actually polarizing us.  Jason Whitlock is much more eloquent than I could ever hope to be and no reason to  :beatdeadhorse: So why don't we just  :beerchug: because we are all 2-wheel-brothers.

As someone who has come from that industry (radio/media), I have some VERY opinionated positions with this regard which has nothing to do racial opinions.

Bottom Line - As we always will, there is much more work to be performed prior to a perfect world, which we will never see in our lifetime.

Until then, All the best...

To me it really straight forward, Imus was wrong! But at the same time you can't persecute one or two people for doing what many are doing. Those that say they are for equal rights, but say it's OK for one group to say or do something, but not another are hypocrite's! I think most of you know who I'm talking about. If it's wrong it wrong for all, you can't pick and choose.
The media also has a responsibility here, they are looking for sensationalism/ratings, they see a black vs black issue as no great news, but a black and white issue can really be exploited by the news.
