Spoke Inverted Front End
« on: June 07, 2017, 07:30:08 PM »

I bought a Spyke inverted front end about 10 years ago and need to change fork seals.

Spyke isn't making these anymore and nobody there seems to have any info on how to take them apart to replace seals.

The top caps are smooth with no notches for a spanner wrench.

Anybody have suggestions on how to remove them?

Thanks in advance !

You might try a grippy rubber strap wrench, like the ones plumbers use on fixtures to prevent marring of the finish.  It doesn't look like you have a lot of surface area to grip, but if the cap isn't overly tight it may work.

If Jerry's strap wrench suggestion doesn't work, wrap a piece of leather or rubber around the cap and use vive grips or channel locks to try and turn them.

You might try a wrap of rubber inside an automotive type hose clamp . Then the channel locks using the worm screw area as the point of leverage.

We tried the strap wrench method earlier and it didn't work.

Haven't tried the Sprintkid hose clamp idea yet but that's next.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks to all !

You can try with a piece of PVC pipe, get a piece that's about as long as the cap and a little smaller in diameter, than saw it length wise in half, you can use those piece's to protect the cap while clamping in a vise, it doesn't look like there is much to grab on, but that is what I would try??
