Dang it, Another road trip and only 2 problems
« on: July 12, 2017, 11:24:24 PM »

We did our 4th of July trip, this is a every year thing. Leave home, ride, come back. 1 of these times we need to figure out how not to do the last part. The 2 issues with the bike.
Had to get gas and the infotainment system didn't turn a couple times.
Originally we were going to head back to the Sturgis area but as the trip times got closer so did the thunderstorms back there. So we ended up going down into Oregon and if you want to pull out your map I'll give you a few directions of the routes we took.
We left Spokane on Thursday after work and went down 395 to the Tri-Cities spent the night there. After getting up Friday morning eating breakfast we loaded up and headed south south east towards Baker City Oregon when we got to North Powder we exited the highway, west so that we could do the Elkhorn Scenic byway,  this is a loop that brings you across the Anthony Lake area down into Granite, Sumpter and back into Baker City for the night.
From Baker City, Saturday morning we went south got onto Highway 7 westbound and onto 26, going through a bunch of these little towns like Prairie City, John Day, Mount Vernon, Mitchell and leading us to Sisters Oregon. This was all on Highway 26, if you're ever in this area check it out it's great scenery.
Sisters is about 20 miles west of Redmond and 20 miles Northwest of Bend. We spent two days in Sisters, we did do a loop following 126 West catching a couple of the waterfalls in the area then dropping South to 242 east that brings you through the McKenzie pass. This highway is one not to miss. No vehicles over 35 ft in length due to the Sharp switchbacks and elevation change. We did this short Loop in about a three or more hours and in the early morning on a Monday it was great very little traffic and the temperature wasn't too high.
On Tuesday we started heading back home North on 97 taking us all the way up to Biggs Oregon where we crossed the Columbia River to follow Highway 14 East back to 395 North to Interstate 90 East back to Spokane.
This has been a great ride no issues at all with this bike, fuel economy started to get a little bit better, averaged around 42 miles a gallon.
If anybody's ever in Oregon Highway 26 - 126 and the loop we did on 242 are definitely worth doing.
 Safe Journeys everyone.
