Recommendation for tires for a 2015 Limited
« on: July 09, 2017, 01:18:46 PM »

There might already be a discussion thread for this but I couldn't find it. I need to get new tires, front and rear for a 2015 Limited. Any recommendations?

Thank you in advance.

There isn't a huge number of choices in the stock sizes, but you have four I'm aware of.

Stock H-D branded Dunlops, D408F and D407T
Dunlop American Elite
Michelin Commander II
Avon Cobra AV71 and AV72

The stock sizes and load ratings:

Front  -  130/80B17  65H    Rim - 3.00 x 17
Rear   -  180/65B16  81H    Rim - 5.00 x 18

Be aware when shopping that some brands list the correct size but only offer a much lower load rating.

Thank you Jerry. I'm thinking I might go with the Michelin's. Anyone running the Michelin Commander II's?

I ran the Avon's on my 08 Ultra and loved them. Felt like they had less sidewall roll in the corners.  Handled really well.  When I replace the stock tires on the 16, I'll be buying them again.

If you do a lot of touring, something to be had for an OE tire if you're on the road & ever need a replacement  ???

Cambo,

During Bikeweek Daytona 2017 I put on some Michelins on my roadking and thus far really really like them.   Next set of tires for the 2011 will be the Michelins.

I've got the MC II's on my bike.  Bought the bike used and had one on the back...I put 10k on it with no issues (not sure how many miles were on the tire when I got it, so it could be much higher). Front tire was a Dunlop which was cupping so this past January I replaced both with MC II's.  Rear had 1,700 miles on it when I picked up a nail last month so I just put a new rear on it and sold my old one to a friend who runs tubes.

Been on MC II's for about 5k miles.  Seems good so far.  Seems like I feel road grooves and tar snakes a bit more than the Dunlops but not significant.  My dealer does not stock anything but stock so had them ordered in thru Drag.  With my discount they ended up a few dollars above the stock.  It will be worth it if I can actually wear them out without them cupping.  As Mr D indicated this could be an issue if touring as it took a couple days to get them ordered in.  I noticed Pig Trail HD stocked them when we were there for MTM.

On my 3rd set of MC II's.  Have always had good wear and mileage from them.  Current set on now reaching 17k and still look good.  Just ordered new set for cvo street glide.    Not really cause it looks bad or cupping, miles just have me a bit nervous!

I replaced mine with Michelin Commander II's.  So far they have been great with no complaints.

Just put MC 2s on, price wise a few bucks cheeper, like others hoping to wear them out before they cup out. Rite now I'm on the new tire honeymoon and just love them... so smooth

I really have had very good results from Dunlop American Elite tires. They hold up as well, or better than the OEM Dunlops, and are quite a bit less $$. I mount and balance my own, so I also save the labor. Check out prices and then go to RevZilla. They will match the best price you find online.

After only 8k on the factory Dunlops I'm having good success with the Metzler 888s on my 15 RGU.
