Highly overcompensated CEO's and other executives should have to compete with their peers in the same third world countries they expect the peons in their companies to compete with.  Somehow I think the way they embrace the "race to the bottom" would change drastically.

Btw, others have used temporary part time workers in the USA, Japan, etc., without destroying quality at the same time.  This isn't the cause of the quality and reliability problems at H-D, that award goes to management (or lack thereof).  And those other companies I'm talking about don't hire TPT workers at the same time they are cutting production, but rather use them for things like vacation replacements, periods of higher than normal demand versus hiring full time employees for a few months only to be laid off, etc..  For Harley to hire TPT's at the same time they are letting regular employees go and cutting production tells me the union has become completely worthless and management has sunk to new lows even for Harley.

H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 40, hate 50, bewildered 10.

Wonder? A 115 year track record should take most of the mystery out.

I worked several years for a very Major Japanese Auto parts company.  Maintenance and Management were about the only direct hires we used.  People in supply, quality and production workers all were temporary workers prior to being offered a full time position.

With as difficult as it can be to fire some one, it is much easier to have them work for you for 6 months to a year before you decide to hire them.

Worked very well for this non-union company.  Very few actually employees were fired in the five years I worked for them.  We had well over 1000 employees.

That is not what the company I was working for did.  I do not agree with termination of senior employees to bring on new ones.
