I am sure this has been covered.  I have decided to load a file with some changes to the Calibration.  My Gateway Lap Top (M460) has several USB connection outlets and one Serial at the back.  However it is 15 pin (hole) female while the end of the cable connection for the SERT (came with the SERT) is a 9 pin (Belkin) Female.

What do I need to convert/adapt???  I know the RACE starts soon but quick solution would be appreciated ;)

Is your 15 pin connector made up of two rows of male pins?  If so it is an old style serial port.  It's unlikely you've got a laptop that has USB ports and still has a 15 pin serial port though.  If your 15 pin port is three rows of female pins that's a video outpot port.

What you've likely got (as is common nowadays) is USB ports and a video port.  What you'll need is a USB to serial adaptor.  Commonly available at places like Best Buy or Radio Shack.

Great!  Thanks for the info.  I guess that is why HD is no longer including he Cables in the SERT package.  Just got back from the Shack and purchased a USB to Serial cable (little "black box" in the center) for another $30.  Need to load drivers from a CD.  So, will I need to make any adjustments to the SERT program recognize this?

You may have to change the COM port settings for the Serial to USB adapter in Windows "Device Manager" to be a common one such as Com1, 2,3,4 (depending on which are available) in order to communicte with the SERT.

When I loaded the drivers, I noticed it referred to port #7.  Just got finished with uploading a file (after many failed attempts!)  I had to set the Com port on the SERT file to look at #7.  That allowed me to "Get ECM Info" but when I tried to upload, it stopped at 25% with message "unable to install Bootload-Quitting".

I am not sure what I did to finally get it to accept the upload (unplug this, change com port back an forth, unplug again, get info, upload, same error message, repeat everything again and finally... it took it.  Performed the disconnect sequence then started her up!  Guess what..... it started.  Now for a test ride.

Test ride was great!  The values in the Calibration 36 for Accel Enrichment and Decel Enleanment were different enough from those in the Calibration 29 that it cleared up some "stumbling and hesitation".  I copied all the other values that my dyno tuner made in the AFR, VE and Spark Advance tables for the Cal 29 that he made last summer.
Now I just need to figure out the Com Port with the computer....some day!  :confused5:

Not sure what is necessary.  Looked at device manager and nothing that looks familiar or anything I want to try to mess with.  Not sure what happened with the initial "partial" upload.

Magic1 why type of computer / laptop are you using?   Most Serial Cables are 2 rows or called an RS 232 cable.

I would be interested in knowing whats on the back of your computer sounds more like a video port than a serial port.

This is an example of a RS 232 Serial Cable port

Magic1 sounds almost like you have an irq conflict on the bus with your USB Adapter.  You should be able to go into the bios and disable your other serial ports and then go into your USB adapter and be able to use com port 3 or 4

Generally irq12 and com1 are pre designated for serial mouse and on board serial port.   That generally leaves the modem for com2 or com4 which are usually disable able.   Also make sure your laptop is plugged in and that the bike is in the run position.   If your done loading your map and satisfied I would leave it alone you could end up with an ECM that may need replacing.   It just depends on what caused the boot load issue.   You are very lucky that the map ended up loading when I have seen this before and the person got lucky with 06 and an 07 they ended up having the radio in troubleshooting mode where you have to hold down buttons 1/3 for radio presets as you turn the bike on and take the bike out of diagnostic mode.

YIKES!  I guess I am lucky!  (and a PC illiterate); With Unbalenced help, I figured out that the serial port on the back was actually a video port intended for Video.  On the the side I have 4 USB outlets for which I plug in a wireless mouse to one.  The others are rarely used.

When I loaded the drivers, there was brief moment that I saw Com 3 listed.  When I opened up the SERT program, there were 3 port numbers available, but only 2 would return as "active" on the program message.

Going into "BIOS" is not something I have experience with.  However, I would agree that I may not be able to go back to make any changes until the issue is resolved. (I may only get lucky once!)

I do have to go out and check my radio.  I wanted only to listen to the bike during test run and did not turn the radio on.  (Crap... and I was telling my wife over dinner how happy I was that I finally got the file to load.)
Update: Radio works fine.  Going to stop by the tuner to give him a copy of the file and check the bike over.
