broke throttle cable replacement question
« on: September 11, 2008, 08:17:01 PM »

On the way home from work today I felt a "give" on the throttle cable and noticed I had extra play on the throttle.  Got home and took the throttle apart couldn't figure out where the extra play in the cable was coming from, then I noticed on the frame in front of the fuel tank where the cruise spade connectors are the cable was badly rusted. Finely started pulling on the throttle cable at the grip and the cable had broken somewhere in the area of the cruise spade connectors.

My question is I believe the cables are 2" over due to the wild1 bars. I can't find the part number, would anyone have it handy?

Probably should replace the idle cable as well, would need that number to.

After some searching looks like the cables just need to be re routed.  Is HD' SS stock cables as good as after market?

Thanks guys, and I thought I was going for a ride this weekend!

RR, strictly for comparison with the 575 bars alone I didn't have to change throttle and idle cables.  Later when a throttle body was changed that change moved the ends of the cables outboard just a bit farther and they no longer quite reached using stock routing.  Close, but not quite.

For awhile I rerouted through the other hole in the inner fairing.  That gained the length necessary.  Later changed the cables to 2" over and routed them back through the stock location while doing something else.  But moving from one hole ot the other through the inner can gain you a little.

Thanks,  does the tank have to be removed or just tilted up and cable fished?

Its covered under warranty, dealer will pick the bike up.  Parts not in stock anyways.

Tank is easy enough on/off I'd be surprised if they tried to work around it.
