The kit includes a pair of new FOB's which must be "married" to the BCM by the dealer with their DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II. It's an easy enough physical installation, so why pay the dealer $125/hour? BUT, don't know if the motor can be started until the BCM "knows" a security FOB is present.
QUESTION: If I were to install the system in my garage, is it possible to start the motor and ride to the dealer to complete the FOB programming?
I'm aware it's possible to start a motor with no fob present by entering a Security PIN, however that's for an already installed/activated system where a PIN had previously been assigned. Reading from the Service Manual, I doubt a default PIN is pre-assigned to a replacement part:
From my 2015 Touring Service Manual: ACTUATION: Activation consists of assigning two fobs to the system and entering an initial PIN (picked by the owner). The initial PIN entry should be performed using DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II in conjunction with fob assignment. Once the system has been activated, it “arms” within 5 seconds of switching the OFF/RUN switch to OFF and no motorcycle motion.
BACKGROUND: Ordered and received a new 41000341 BCM for my 2015 FLTRUSE. The newer BCM is a part of the 41000087F Smart Security System Kit which is required in order to install the tire pressure monitoring system first seen in the 2016 CVO's.
