Oil Leak
« on: November 09, 2004, 08:48:45 PM »

Has anyone had a leak at the plate that covers the left side of the oil filter mount? After only 500 miles mine has started to weep! [smiley=furious.gif] Any experience on dealers fixing a weeping leak?

Try some brake cleaner and see if it continues to leak. Sometimes the gasket can have some rsidual oil on it during assembly which will cause it to "weep" as the engine heats. Doesn't have anything to do with sealing. If you clean it a couple of times it may go away. If it gets worse, then maybe it's a bad gasket. [smiley=beerchug.gif]

PCC's post will probably fix the problem.  I had 2 similar problems in the first couple of months and prior to tearing into it cleaned the area with brake cleaner and alcohol.  No more seeping is showing.

My 05 SEEG "weeps" in the same place. Seems to take about 500 miles to show up.
I hit it with brake cleaner. If It starts to LEAK I will change the gasket.
