Bent Spring Rod?
« on: January 10, 2025, 08:50:44 PM »

Please examine the picture.  What do you think?  Does it look like one or both of the spring rods might be bent?  The springs just don't look right to me, and the bike doesn't handle right.  It feels awkward in a curve, unsteady slowing down to a stop, and pulls to left if I take my hands off the bars at 40 mph.  I'm thinking bent spring rods might have my front wheel off camber, and this would explain everything.

To start with, I've always liked the look of the springer front end but after riding in front of 1 at night and with the headlight constantly  flashing do to the bounce, talking with owners telling about the yearly rebuilding of the front end also known as maintenence,  I decided never to get 1.
That is my personal thoughts.
As for the picture,  those springs should be straight according to all the pictures I just looked at on line.
To me it looks like time for tear down and better inspection of all parts.
I also have read the proper tire is very important for good handling  / tracking.
If it was my bike I  would find a local independent that has real life experience in rebuilding the springer front end and let him look at and test ride it to get his recommendations.
