Blown Fuses' on SEUC²
« on: April 12, 2007, 07:59:36 PM »

Alright y'all, I'm having trouble.

I keep blowing the 15 amp fuse that controls the accessories. It has done this 4 times today. I had this happen in Daytona after a rainstorm. Unbalenced & I removed the turn signal module that makes the TS act as brake lights. This seemed to have cured the problem until today.

No water at all today!

Nothing was changed or added. The GPS was plugged into the cigarette lighter. I lost it, the turn signals,  & brake lights. The GPS is fused by itself internally and is ok. The alarm did chirp when I turned the bike on at one point during the day but I'm not sure if it was before or after the fuses' blew.

Being that I did not change any parameters today I'm leaning torwards the TSMM. ??? Any help out there???

I would check the inside of the cig lighter, and the plug. Sometimes they tend to short out. They are not made very good.  That would be the first thing (easy) I would look at.  If the GPS is unplugged, and the fuse don't short, that solves it.

I also had one short, and it occured from the RH Front turn sig. Blew a lamp.  It had shorted, but until I looked in the soclket with a flashlight, I could not see it.  It was from water intrusion that had accumulated and left the tiniest remnant of some corrosion in it.

Hope this starts and solves your journey.

I have heard about the ACR's (Automatic Compression Releases) doing this. They intermittantly cause fuses to blow and the bike needs to go to the dealer for the fix. Unsure if it was the acc fuse or the 15 amp ECM fuse being effected.

AJ, just because it's easiest and cheapest (usually) start with the simple stuff first.  Our front light housings are a problem.  Water gets in behind the bulb.  Corrosion and decay happens in the rear of the socket where we can't even see it.  Take the bulbs out and use the eraser end of a pencil and wiggle the contact plate around.  See if that pops a fuse.  The lighter plugs are also an occasional problem as mentioned.  Eyeball inside of it for rust or other gunk.  Wiggle the housing if you've got the fairing off.  After that it's must more of the mouse chasing its tail.  Check connections, check chafes, check anything that is simple and cheap.  If nothing shows up there then start worrying about gremlins (intermittent parts problems).  But hope that's not it.  Dealers throw fits over spending warranty time chasing down intermittent problems (and over don't look too hard).  Good luck.
