Emergency Request: Road King Locked Forks
« on: March 31, 2007, 02:29:34 PM »

I just got a call from a buddy. Stuck out on a ride with the stuck fork lock problem on an 02 RKC.

Any ideas? He's waiting on a call.

Thanks

Is it resolved?

Is the lock on a RK on the side (push in type) or the top like SEUC?

Just got a call. Resolved. The problem is a short pin in the lock had "fallen" of to the side rendering the lock inoperable.

Thanks AJ

He said he could see the real short pin in the lock had tipped over. He put a drop of oil in the lock to "thicken" it up a bit and then used a paperclip to "right" the pin and get in place long enough to unlock it.

I remember there was quite a bit of discussion 3 or 4 years ago about RK locks with "short pins" on the "up" side of the lock that would tip out of place. The solution was to get a new lock with longer pins on the uphill side.

Short pins have short notches on the key, and vice versa.

Had this happen last year on an 06 Street Glide while in a parking lot of a mall. We took as much as we could apart and took the ignition apart. It was covered under warranty even though they gave my bud grief over dismantling the bike. My brothers 06 as well as another Buds 06 Street Glide had recalls/tsb's (or what ever they call it) for their ignitions.
