HD Definitives Filtration System
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:22:02 AM »

Is anyone familiar with this new oil filtration system? My dealer told me it has an antisyphon valve which keeps oil in the top end. I think most if not all canister filters that are installed horizontally have an antisyphon valve built in. What is the advantage then? The initial cost is high and there is very little difference between the cost of the high end HD canister filter and the replacement cartridge. Thanks for the opinions all!

Advantage is the MoCO's.  If it was at least able to make the job cleaner then it would be worth it.  but theres no advantage  in the long run at all.  Several dealer top brass told me to save my money on that one.   chrome  cures  all :2vrolijk_21:

I have been told by sources to remain nameless 8), that it uses the same filter as the throw-away canister has in it, but yet costs 3 dollars more.  Supposedly, this is to satisfy the tree-huggers in that you're not throwing away the metal canister every oil change but rather just the filter insert.  Who knows...I'm sticking with the standard chrome canister. :P

Buy and use the K&N KN171C chrome spinon with the hex nut on the end and they are a lot easier to take on/off.  A lot better filter too from what others have researched on this site in the past regarding media, checkvalve, etc..

Thanks all. I couldn't see the advantage and thanks to you that is confirmed. I will take your advise and if I have any more questions, I won't hesitate to ask!

According to the P&A catalog, the Definitives filter will not fit with the Premium oil cooler which is found on the CVO Touring bikes anyway.  I lioked the idea of unscrewing the end of it to drain the oil so as not to dump it on the frame , oil cooler, etc.   :nixweiss:

That is the only advantage I see with this product but it is probably more messy during the change than the stock system as you have to grab hold of the oily catridge to replace it. How many times can you remove that end cap & refit it before you have problems with the soft alloy threads??

I will steer clear of this one as well! But if it was 30 or 40 bucks I would give it a go.

Cheers
