Leather Tourpak Removal on 08
« on: July 10, 2007, 10:02:39 AM »

What were they thinking when they removed the leather tourpak which is such a defining part on the 07 CVO Ultras. I like some or should I say most of the 08 changes but I hate to see the tourpak axed in the transition to the 08's. I know the leather is a maintenance issue but it was worth the extra effort for the identifiable feature.

Harly,
I too feel the same way when it comes to this subject. I just could not understand how a painted fiberglass tour pak was preferred by some over the leather tour pak :nixweiss:. It is also a highly emotional/passionate subject too.

Many have replaced theirs with the fiberglass box and custom paint work and all that I've seen have been done very well. I am considering making my leather tour pak detachable for the sake of having two distinct looks for the same bike (members here have done this as well - VERY NICE) but I wouldn't give up the leather either  :2vrolijk_21:.

Personally I like the painted tourpak much better than the leather, but to each his own...

At first the leather looked odd, but as time past I have grown to like it much more than the glass pak. As owners of these 2 rare years we see the bike alot more than others, so we're used to it and most of us like it better. The glass pak looks boxy to me now.

I agree that the leather pak made the CVO's eaiser to distinguish, but it did come with a space penalty felt when packing for a trip. Reverting back to the King pak, while great on the functional side, will allow the 08 CVO's to blend into the pack now.

Neither is optimal, but both have their advantages too.

How's that for wishy washy?  :)

I guess I'm on the side of the few...I like the different look of the leather, and I have compensated for the smaller space by adding a bag on top of the tour pack when I need extra space.  I also think that the '06 and '07 will always stand out as they were the only leather.  It kind of makes ours different from the rest. :bananarock:
