Crappy tun sig lens, or me?
« on: July 03, 2007, 04:14:07 PM »

I have the '05 SEEG, with stock turn signal housings and lenses....   Problem is this;  the front left lens is perenially broken.  Eveyrtime I look at the damned thing, it's got a another broken tab on it.  None of the others break, but this one breaks, it falls off, it just disappears on rides, it leaks....  it's just crap. I've replaced it three times  I don't, or at least I haven't in the past (now I cuss at it when I see it), or treated it any different than the others.  Arrgghhh!

Anybody else with similar problems with the stock lenses?     :nixweiss:

Crappy crappy crap. Haven't lost any but they seem to like to crack, and for sure they are not water tight.  :soapbox:

Most of the water, and especially the water that kills bulbs and sockets, comes in from behind and not in front.  It comes in where the harness enters and puddles up behind the bulb.

Cover that area around where the harness enters with silicone.  It'll make the bulbs and sockets lost much much much longer.  I had bad experience with lenses when I was taking them on and off regularly to change bulbs.  Sealed up that harness entry point and now don't have to change bulbs (very often anyway).  Not messing with the lenses has helped having them break.

I also had better luck with the lenses that had the visor around them.  Same lens (I think) but the extra material of the visor seems to help somehow.  I never looked close to really see how.  Just know they've given no trouble whatsoever.

Never had a problem here but I always change out to the visor style. Good luck.

Changed mine out for the chrome ringed ones.  Used bulb grease, and haven't had a problem since.  Knock on wood.

Your right.  Crappy Crap Crap.   Finally, after a lot of asking, got one of my turn signal housing replaced under warranty.  It got stuck on a shelf along with the other one that should have been replaced but wasn't and I have the pancea turn signals instead. They don't have the lenses that get the broken tabs, no water gets in them and my lights are not perpetually always burned out.  Oh well, only took me two years to bite the bullet and walk away from the orignal ones.
