Music Download Websites
« on: September 03, 2007, 10:23:00 AM »

Howdy Everyone! :drink: :bananarock:

I am looking for the best and safest music download site for mp3 and CD's. I'm new to this, when the kids were home we had quite a collection of downloads. New computer a couple years ago and lost the collection. I want to put some on my Zumo and burn some to a CD. I seen some that you pay a one time fee from $24.99 to $34.99 and then see many that are free. I don't want all the popups or junk that can come from them.

Who do you use? Ever any problems? What should I look out for? What do I need to know? Thanks in advance! God Bless!

I use Limewire to download MP3's for my Zumo. It is peer to peer so you are getting the music from others (unknown) computers, but as long as you have all your virus protection up to date you should be fine. Once I download MP3's I scan them for virus before playing. Also since this is a peer to peer program it will set up a library that others will be able to search/download songs from your computer. Make sure you set this "library" up in a folder that will not have any information stored you don't want others to see. This folder will be the same folder that MP3's that you download will be stored. Once I have downloaded music I move them to another folder, and keep this folder empty so when others are searching there will be nothing on my computer for them to see.

Most of the music on Limewire is in the MP3 format. You can burn MP3 CD's unfortunately your radio and mine (on the bike) will not play them. '06 and later radio (Harmon-Kardon) will play MP3 format. I believe you can use Windows Media Player to convert (burn) them back to a format that would play in non MP3 players. I know you can take songs off a regular CD and burn them to MP3 format so I would think you could go back. :nixweiss:

JR,

I've got several old albums (I think that's what they used to be called).  Seems like they're 33-1/3.  You're welcome to use them if you can find some what to play them.  They look sort of like a big CD, but they won't fit in any of my players.

I HAVE USED LIMEWIRE FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS...ITS FREE..AND EASY TOO USE..YOU CAN GET THE LIMEWIRE PRO FOR ABOUT 20 PLUS DOLLARS..FASTER DOWNLOADS AND MORE SEARCH RESULTS...WHICH I HAVE...I USE ROXIO EASY MEDIA (WHICH COST AROUND 60-100 DOLLARS) FOR BURNING CDS AND DVDS..YOU CAN PICK IT UP AT WALMART OR ANY SOFTWARE STORE. ITS GREAT FOR RESIZING PIC ALSO..
WARNING ABOUT LIMEWARE....USE THE BEST ANTI VIRUS WHEN DOWNLOADING CDS OR MOVIES. I USE NORTON.

You can convert 'em to mp3 (or wav). My son-in-law (to be) is into music on vinyl (apparently that's the new thing). He took my old record player & all my old albums is going to convert them for me (don't ask me how).

I let my old B.I.C. turntable go in a garage sale.  I don't have anything to play the old vinyl.  My 27 year old son was asking me recently about how you played records and wanted to know if you had to let the whole thing play through or if you could go to specific songs.  I'm suprised that he's never asked me why they call it dialing a phone number.

That's so funny! :huepfenlol2: Times sure have changed. I remember growing up in Chicago or house had wooden floors with a crawl space. One of my older brothers had quite a collection of albums. Our room had posters all over the walls with the black light on, I thought it looked so cool! I fell off the top bunk one night while my brother was listening to his new Beatles album. The floor shook, the needle jumped and scratched his new record. He then proceeded to jump all over me! :'( Thank God 8 tacks came along! ;D ;D ;D All them shoe boxes under the seat and in the trunk of our $50 comet I bought from shoveling snow! Times sure have changed! :2vrolijk_21:
