Tour Pak Scratches
« on: July 12, 2007, 09:18:11 AM »

All:

On my newly purchased '06 CUSE the tour pack has a bunch of scratches on the leather near the button.  Appears the previous owner used their finger nails to open the top.  Anything that can be done to remove them?  I have tried a good leather conditioner but no luck.

Thanks

Very common - learned the hard way on my 06, educated the wife, and haven't had the same problem on the 07.  I couldn't find anything to remove them completely, but the HD leather dressing that comes with the bike helped.

Try this. It's all I ever use. Can be found at most bike rally's, on line and ebaY. It has black pigment and will hide scratches and it also waterproofs.
It's not expensive and goes a long way. I use it on boots, gloves, tour pak, you name it. Don't particularly care for the HD Vazoline crap . . .

The Original Doc Bailey's Leather Black actually contains a dye pigment that restores lost colour. It also cleans, nourishes and waterproofs. Doc Bailey's Leather Black gently cleans leather with specially formulated detergents which actually lift dirt out, opening the pores of the leather allowing the lanolin oil to flow into the leather nourishing and softening it. Doc Bailey's Leather Black actually penetrates deep into the leather to restores lost colour. As a finishing touch, special waxes lock the colour in which protects and waterproofs your leather.

Wear rubber gloves when applying.

BTW - I always lift the lid by the luggage rack. Will prevent further scratching. :2vrolijk_21:

What he said... :2vrolijk_21:

The Doc Bailey's stuff really works.

I use Glare Leather Conditioner 98% of the time, but the Doc's stuff when I need to color a scratch.

Haven't tried the Doc Bailey's stuff yet, but I have plenty of experience with leather and vinyl (ARMY).  A scratch is a scratch is a scratch.  It is what it is.  Once it is there, it isn't going away.  You can build up a metric a$$ ton of polish over it and cover it up, but underneath, it will still be a scratch.  My Tour Pak came with scratches as well.  Then Renea added to them.  Heck I picked up a new one this week, and I don't even know how I did it.  In my mind, it adds character.  just keep it slathered up with Glare leather and vinyl cleaner and it will always look great.

Cheers!!!
