103 Cams
« on: July 14, 2007, 11:39:58 PM »

Well the 05 FBSE 103 is 2 years old with 25,000 miles on her.  It's time to change the cams!!  So, the question is what cam do I use & where is the best place to buy them???

Nobody makes better cams that Dave Mackie - - nobody. Me and Beags have been there done that and proven to ourselves that no matter what claims anyone makes, no matter what they throw up there for dyno sheets, out on the street when bros race each other for beers or on the strip where the money goes with the lights, Mackie is the best. He's on line, check him out or better yet, look up his number and call, if you ask, he'll pick up the phone and talk to you.

For the SE 103 CVO motor you'll want a cam that is designed specifically for the heads and compression that they have. There are two companies making cams specifically for the 103, Freedom Cycles and Zippers. Freedom has two flavors, the FCC13 and 14. Zippers has the Red Shift 575. All three are excellent cams and many many members here have had great results with them. All of these are "bolt-in" cams.

I'm happy with my Freedom cams.

Is Brad working on something for the 110 motors, Jim?

Sorry guys, can't agree on the Freedom Cams. Cycle Visions did a 95" Mackie set-up on Beag's brother in law Hank's 88" 02 RK with M&M EFI and it blows the wheels off the Freedom set-up they put in Beag's 103 Cherry Bomb. Freedom's just another word for nothin else to lose in my book. I wouldn't take the gift of one.

Jeff,

The only cam's I know of that can use the stock pushrod is the freedom cam its built off the base circle.

In each of the other cases you will require other than a harley cam to buy adjustable pushrods and pushrod tubes.

Can't just answer your question because there is not enough information about what your really trying to accomplish.

Where you like to ride, type of riding you do, rpm range, 1 up 2 up.

Bolt in Harley, Freedom, Zippers

Gear Drive
Andrews, Woods, Mackie, T-Man, Wes Brown, Freedom, S&S, Zippers

You can also convert your bike to the 07 cam plate and use the new roller chain.

Just ask Mrs. WeCVO why you might consider the 07 version or the Gear Drives.

Places to buy would be direct from some of these guys, Zinotti's, Drag Specialties, Chicago Harley, J&P Cycle

There are faster motors, even faster 95" motors.  But considering the weight of a SEEG and the fact that it's plug and play cams (no head work, etc.) this is a mighty nice set of cams.  Still have the reliabilty of a stock motor but the performance of one that's not.

JC,
My personal opinion of Beagle's 05 SEEG is that I liked it better with the stock 103" motor with a PC III and a set of Hooker True Duals. Cycle Visions could not dial in the Freedom Cams with the Hookers which led Beags to having to buy a set of Reinharts which while giving him a bunch of high RPM HP took away a truckload of torque.

So  A) the installation was not plug and play for Beagle and
      B) Beagle being a torquemeister lost what he enjoys the most

Sorry Brian, but Beagle is the only one not getting the numbers from the Freedom cams.  Everyone else has posted nothing but good things about them.  I'll take 106/116 (my red bike) from a stock motor with cams anytime, especially with 100 ft lbs torque at 3000 RPM.

For the guys looking for cams, take a look at the dyno threads and form your own opinions...

I am curious what Matt's opinion is on his bike.

While I have to agree with JC, as far as I know of to this point Matt is the only one having issues making numbers with the bike.  I installed the yb14sec07 and had no issues making numbers, but I will say that I personally prefer the power a little lower in the band than this cam delivers for me being a big guy and a heavy bike.

The power really comes on around 3200 rpm's and then it runs all the way to 6400.

That's what I'm talkin about............104 HP and 116 TQ for a stock, reliable motor is very nice!
